reuters: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said on Monday it would investigate a crash that killed “Star Trek” actor Anton Yelchin in his recalled 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Yelchin was killed when the SUV rolled away and pinned him against a fence in Los Angeles, police said on Sunday. Fiat Chrysler in April recalled more than 1.1 million cars and SUVs worldwide because vehicles may roll away after drivers exit, an issue linked to 41 injuries, 212 crashes and 308 reports of property damage, though it had no immediate fix for owners.
Yelchin died of accidental blunt force asphyxia, Los Angeles County Coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter said in a phone interview Monday. The results of toxicology tests to determine if Yelchin was under the influence of any substances are not due back for at least six weeks, he added. more
A Hollywood actor has an accident and there’s an immediate investigation.
Supreme Court Justice and pro-2nd Amendment supporter Antonin Scalia dies and nobody gives a flying fuck.
Gee, I wonder why?
What a shame. He had that Star Trek character down pat too.
I made a mistake, I bought a Jeep.
Don’t you make a mistake and buy a Jeep.
I’m an engineer at Chrysler. Last year a fellow engineer’s Grand Cherokee backed up over her. She broke her pelvis and is lucky to be alive. This is a known issue.
When I initially read about this it was my first thought as to what happened.
Why in the hell would anyone with a movie star’s paycheck by a Chrysler product? Them pieces of junk is fo po peoples.
FIX IT AGAIN TONY AND AGAIN AND AGAIN! You couldn’t pay me to buy a damned Fiat. And hopefully since they own Chrysler now it won’t destroy them as a business and an American institution. MOPAR FOREVER, FIAT NEVER!
Loosely translated into Italian Fiat stands for POS. The only thing worse would be if they still owned Yugo. But we took care of that during the war in the Balkans 20 years or so ago by bombing the shit out of the Yugo factory. Score one for the good guys.
Why in the hell would anybody buy a Chrysler? It doesn’t take more that 2 minutes of research to figure out that the Grand Cherokee is a POS.
Oh well, the gene pool cleans itself sometimes.
A Jeep kills an actor and Obama kills a country. Coincidence?
One of the best cars I’ve ever owned (in my youth) was a 1966 Dodge Coronet 4-door sedan with a 383 engine. I lent it to a friend and he wrecked it running into a deer. Too bad they don’t make cars like that anymore.
Dodge! Al Bundy’s car of choice.
When I was 15, I was taught by my driving instructor to put the emergency brake on when on an incline and turn my wheels slightly to prevent going directly into the road. Do people use them? Are they actually effective for prevention?
Do these things happen on an incline or decline in elevation?
What’s the difference between an incline and a decline? Don’t they both go in the same direction?
😉
Onginer,
Wouldn’t setting the parking brake has prevented this?
With all of the push from EPA etc for squeezing out more fuel economy, it’s easy to imagine all sorts of un-necessary, computer prompted gyrations resulting in thumps and bumps that could do this. I had the first series of GC, the 93 1/2 which was a plague of problems, but didn’t seem to have this one.
Still a very sad thing, while all accidents are, at some level preventable, it’s doubly sad when it could have been prevented in more than one way.
It’s so flat where I live, it makes Amarillo look like Swiss Alps.
