Florida: A neighborhood covered in poop

Miami Herald: Beneath the oak canopy, residents who lived for decades in a cozy, peaceful, jasmine-scented corner of north Coconut Grove walked dogs, tended gardens, exchanged recipes and followed the love-thy-neighbor commandment.

Then the peacocks moved in. And multiplied.

  1. They should feed the peafowl grain for a few weeks then eat them. Feeding them grain will improve their taste considerably, from what I’ve been told. I’ve necer eaten peafowl, but I’m not opposed to trying it.

  2. Never knew of a Vietnamese to eat peacock, don’t remember seeing any (but that may be the reason why). Dogs were the delicacy, usually for family reunions and special occasions. Pretty good with a little fish, rice and Nuoc Mam on the side.

  3. @cato: Guy told me a story about a Special Forces NCO in Vietnam who befriended a local dog, to the point where he wanted to take it with him when he rotated back to the World. Got paperwork and everything. A week before his departure, the dog disappears. Looked everywhere, but it was not to be found. The night before he was to leave, a bunch of the ARVNs that had worked with the guy threw him a farewell dinner. Afterward, one of the Vietnamese, with a big grin on his face, asked him how he liked his food.

You guessed it. They thought it was the height of hilarity to feed the guy his own dog.

    😉

  4. We’ve had peacocks loose around the farm for decades.
Their screeech sounds like a large woman being violently murdered.
I can understand suburban city folk finding that unsettling.

  5. “She’s sent at least eight emails and made numerous calls to the city, the county and the county’s Animal Services Department”

There won’t be peace until this type of public nuisance is put down.
