Not the Bee:
Finding human remains under water otter be a lot easier for Martin County deputies now that they have Splash on the team.
Splash is a two-year-old Asian otter with the ability to smell under water, so it can dive into the murky depths to find human remains that are undetectable to humans or K9 units. more
How cute!
I hope they don’t stress the poor thing out.
Death smells like, well, death to every living creature.
@MJA:
If you’re a vulture, it smells like lunch. 🙄🤢🤮
This is a cute story but, I’m involved in training dogs for the sport of AKC Scent Work and Tracking and can’t resist chiming in on the topic. “Cadaver Dogs” have been doing this work since the Vietnam era. They have strong bonds with their handler, have the drive to work in terrible conditions, and have the intelligence to do amazing work.
A clip from the following article
“One of the team’s first major finds was the body of a woman murdered by her husband. Rufus found her buried in the couple’s yard, even though she was down more than four feet, covered in lime powder, and entombed under a brand-new concrete patio.”
And, yes, dogs can scent bodies “buried” underwater.

I figured dogs could do everything already.
I wonder if Otters are cheaper. 😁
But it’s just hilarious that somebody thought to train an otter. lol
My Golden could find dead creatures under 2 feet of snow. I don’t know how he could do it.
