JTN: Ford announced a recall of nearly half a million of its vehicles this week due to a defect that prevents the rear view camera from displaying while the vehicle is moving in reverse.
The recall includes almost 383,000 SUVs equipped with 360 degree cameras, among them Ford Explorers and Lincoln Aviators, according to the Associated Press. It will affect 462,000 vehicles worldwide, Reuters noted. more

My Glass Mirrors are Just Fine, esp on the cars where they are heated.
I jumped the rear-camera lockout while in DRIVE so I can watch the expression on faces as I “brake-test” tailgaters.

My husband gets irritated with me because I don’t use the backup camera in my truck. I learned 50 years ago in driver’s ed. to turn around and look n all directions and that’s what I’ll continue to do as long as I drive.
They’re making cars with reverse now? What will they think of next.

I often use a camera on my rear end.
People missing the first step in driving: engage brain.
Cameras are “nice to have” additions but should not be a replacement for thoughtful use of mirrors, windows, and spatial awareness.
Sippin’ Coffee – Same here. I still use the mirrors when backing, but will scan the cam display for kids, cars, etc. Mirrors are primary, the rear cam display is secondary.
Ford must hold the world record for vehicles recalled.
