Ford says F-150 Lightning production to be suspended for another week as battery problems persist

JTN: Ford Motor Corp. on Friday said it would continue for another week its production suspension of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks, citing its battery supplier’s intent to revamp its production processes to work out technical issues with the car’s power supply.

The company issued a halt on the Lightning line last week amid reports of “a potential problem” with the truck’s battery. The trucks are manufactured at the company’s Ford River Rouge complex in Dearborn. more

  1. I saw a commercial of people driving battery powered jeeps off road in heavy snow. I hope that they weren’t more than 20 minutes walk in waist deep snow from shelter.

    Dumb.

  2. My dad told me that they tried all electric milk trucks in Buffalo 80 or 90 years ago; winter came and it was a spectacular failure, the batteries had no range and all the dead weight made it hard to tow the things. (Very long extension cord – that would be like the Bodine-a-phone.)

  3. There is a YouTube of someone driving one of these. He was pulling a small flatbed trailer with an old Ford (Model A or Model T). It was roughly like pulling a boat or small camper. His 400 mile range ended up around 95 miles.
Even most of the gasoline versions are being built with small ecoboost V6 instead of a proper V8.

The six cylinder twin turbo ecoboost has a 10-speed transmission. The 3/4 ton van I’m using for work has a lot of weight, maxed out weight in it and still gets up and goes great. Not sure how many miles I we will get out of it?
Never gonna be driving an E anything.

  5. The EPA destroyed the world.

Turbos on tiny motors that can’t handle them, variable valve timing horseshit, moron engineers who have their hands tied behind their backs to be MOAR moronic. 10 speed transmission? That’s because the motor doesn’t put out.

    Faggotry upon faggotry.

  6. One of my Buddies was talking about buying one to tie into the house electrical supply for use as a battery backup for when the house looses power.
I told him, “Don’t Be Stupid, just buy a Generator for $80,000 LESS.”
