Former CIA officer arrested and charged with spying for China

Just The News:

Aformer CIA officer on Friday was arrested and charged in connection with the allegation that he and a relative who also previously worked for the U.S. agency conspired to supply classified material to Chinese intelligence.

The 67-year-old, Alexander Yuk Ching Ma, was born in Hong Kong and eventually became a U.S. citizen, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). His work for the CIA spanned from 1982 until 1989.

Citing court documents, the DOJ said that Ma and his relative over a period of 10 years sought to transfer classified information to China. The Department says that video footage exists that shows Ma counting money obtained in exchange for giving information to China. more here

  1. We were not at war with the Soviet Union when the Rosenbergs were executed. I know, different times, different norms. Pollard got life (commuted to 30 years by Obama) for spying for Israel (and, allegedly, for whoever).

It seems like, since Bubba, treason has been treated more like a minor misdemeanor, and often a career enhancer — if you are working with an acceptable enemy. Of course, the Clintons were always all about leading by example.

  2. Funny how that “former employee” thing works.

Gary Powers was a “former employee” but still being paid by the agency at the time his fuel gauge was jimmied and he died trying to avert his helicopter from crashing into a bunch of High-Schoolers.
    (if memory serves)
More like some spooks decided to make a little stash off a side-job (Brennan didn’t get his cut?).
