Federalist: Former Rep. Ralph Hall was the oldest member to ever serve in the U.S. House at 91, and the longest-serving representative from Texas. At 95, he died at his home in Rockwall, Texas, just 20 miles east of Dallas, on Thursday.
Hall was a Republican when he left office after losing a primary challenge in 2014, but had served 12 terms in Congress as a Democrat before switching parties in 2004. He was considered one of the leftover Dixiecrats in the Democrat Party, right of the Blue Dogs, and voted against his party for decades.
Hall flew Hellcat fighters during World War II, and was one of the last of the last two WWII veterans in the House and Senate when he left office. Even in his old age, he drove himself to campaign events, and exercised daily, running from his home on Capitol Hill to RFK Stadium and back.
“I’m just an old guy — lived pretty clean,” Hall said when he broke the record for oldest member. “I have no ailments. I don’t hurt anywhere.” more
12 F’terms?
Jeez, nothing wrong with that,,
I don’t care if he gave birth to Jesus!
Rest well, wish voters would have made you done it sooner,,,
How profitable does it need to be for them to quit and teach their grandkids to fish, hunt, fuck and fuck off after the esteemed person gets to be 55 years old and he and the wife tie a string to his penis and bet on the direction of the fall nightly…..
Didn’t know him. Good bye . Rest in peace. Sure he was well taken care of., as all in government are.
I can’t take it any more. I’m sick and tired of politicians, dead or alive.
Phuckemall!
I hope the dead founders rape the old goat with a dull scythe.
Fuckers weren’t meant to grow old representing us.
@ Loco – you just made me crack up! Wait a minute…
I burst out in laughter…
Your last comment? BLAME the ignorant ‘gimme’ electorate.
Paging Charlie Rangel et al. We could go on…
We so desperately need term limits. I think “One-and-Done” is a great idea and slogan.
Anyone who swims in the cesspool of politics for decades is going to be compromised.
I would love to see our Congress selected from the population at random (eligible, of course and no felons or illegal aliens). They get one term and then they are right back in their district as the average Joe. If they screw up in Congress their neighbors are going to tar and feather them. It is a great plan and I bet they would do a better job then our “professional politicians” (spit).
He’s a lucky man.
I just checked out his 1888 High School Yearbook.
Talk about a RACIST!
I grew up near Rockwall. A lifetime ago Hall commented on some assinine DNCCCP antigun bill, “I own enough guns to hold at least one corner of the Alamo.” He voted against it.
Imagine a Commiecrat saying that now.
RIP Ralph.
Term limits
@Brayden Lynch
I’m with you. My thought was maybe call persons up like jury duty. Like I said, just a thought.
