A great talent.
Dudes the only person to not die of covid in like, 18 months.
When I was in the accounting biz, I always heard ‘don’t let the sun catch you crying’ at the office. When people would piss me off, I would sing, “Don’t let the cops catch you killing…” lol.
Rest in peace, Gerry.
Ferry Cross the Mersey is always beautiful

Please tell me I’m not the only one who changes lyrics. haha
So young!
Lied the band as a grad stu
Cherrybark – yeah, good one! It’s always being played somewhere.
“Please tell me I’m not the only one who changes lyrics. haha”
“I just died in your arms tonight, must have been something I ate…”
“You know a rabbit in an aeroplane, oh oh, b-b-b-bunny in a jet…”
I could go on, but no, you’re not the only one lol

Here is a weird story about another “famous” person dying. I don’t remember her but I didn’t watch “Charlie’s Angels.
Gerry had major heart problems, several heart surgeries. And yes, he actually had a pacemaker implanted.
A guy I knew saw Gerry playing an amusement park to a small crowd decades after his fame. I asked him how it was and he replied, “Sad.”
I was disappointed and replied, “Aw, he didn’t sound that good anymore?”
He said, “No, it was sad because there wasn’t a big crowd to see how amazing he still was.”
RIP Gerry. Ferry Across the Mersey was always my favorite of his great bunch of tunes.
If you have a chance, check out the movie The T.A.M.I Show from 1964. It is a concert movie with a bunch of acts (T.A.M.I. stands for Teen Age Music International.
Gerry and the Pacemakers playing back and forth with Chuck Berry, somewhat egging each other on. It works.
The whole movie is pretty good with the exception of Smokey Robinson proving he could not carry a tune in a bucket live even back then.
@MLA: My daughter used to sing “Hold me closer, Tony Danza”.
Now I really want a Rickenbacker! With that cut out and sunburst…
And who can forget, “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying”

RIP to Mr Gerry a great song writer/singer
@MJA who doesn’t change lyrics? And yes, I sing to my cohorts as well, but when I had cohorts to sing too! :>O
@Irony Curtain – I went to a few of those types of concerts back in the day and looked around and thought…WTF, ‘how can people not BE here?’ IOW not sold out by far.
I end up changing lyrics even if it’s just in my mind. I can rarely understand any song lyrics so I just wing it.
I like wrong song lyrics… “if you like bean enchiladas and singing in the rain…” or “please don’t shout at Lionel, don’t take me too far away.” I make up all kinds of stupid stuff while going deaf to power tools and listening to music. I used to like the Foo Fighters but when their new pop song plays I just loudly sing “gay” until it’s done.
Wow, that’s way back there. Time flys and picks up speed. Thanks for the links… I wonder where my Mary Gail is today…first love
Money for nothing and your chicks for free. I seriously thought those were the words until a few days ago. RIP Gerry Thoughts and Prayers to your family. 🕊️❤️🙏
On a lighter note….rumors of Tanya Roberts death have been greatly exaggerated.
Miss kitty, those aren’t the words?
“We got the moonstone microwave ovens…”
He and his group were in my inner cIrcle of favorite musicians.
There is no truth to the rumor that he actually had a pacemaker.
Ferry Cross The Mersey was a very nice song about a man who loved his home town and familiar surroundings. My father, who shipped over to Britain as a soldier in the early days of WWII, landed at Liverpool with his regiment. When he happened to see Gerry singing in the video in the 1980’s, I think he was impressed.
I’ll bet you can’t listen to the original recording (by Louise Cordet) of “Don’t Let The Sun…” all the way through:

He’s crossed the Mersey. RIP Gerry.
