God Gives His Power to Those Who Are Humble

Lifezette: Forget about trying to be ‘stars’ for our own prideful and arrogant reasons — the Lord’s blessings will be ours if we honor Him.

The Bible proclaims
, “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self control” (2 Timothy‬ ‭1:7‬).

So why don’t we see more Christians live empowered by God instead of being fearful, anxious and beaten down by the enemy?

We may not realize it, but our pride will strip us of God’s power.

God gives His power to the humble.

For example, my ego has been a great hindrance to being empowered by God to develop the talent He gave me.

Even from a young age, I always wanted to shine, to impress, to be a star — all for my own glory.

When my family lived as hippies, my mom even let us all choose our own name.

I still have school report cards with my chosen name, “Little Star.” more here

  1. Humbleness and Humility are some of the greatest traits one can possess.

But Courage? That’s the most valuable.

For instance I teach, my crew, my boys, that yeah we can be all the first two above, H and H, BUT “do not mistake my kindness for naivete or weakness, because IF you do, I will knee cap your fucking ass and tear your head off.”

Be kind NEVER let you guard down…or your back to the entrance to the door…

  2. The article presents a basic meaning of humility, but being humble in itself without God’s guidance is just pious, self righteousness.
False humility is practiced by many religions and cults. Christians are defined by knowing, having a personal relationship with God as opposed to just following Him and that’s the correct application of humility concerning God. Romans 10:9-10 and Matthew 7:21-24 should be noted.
BTW, There is an attribute considered more significant than humility – obedience to God, according to the Word of God.
BTW, humility does not always result in passive behavior as implied in the article. Moses in humility, boldly went before Pharaoh and demanded on behalf of God, “Let my people go”. Exodus 7-12.
Humility is a powerful force when assigned by God.

  3. It just makes sense, doesn’t it? Humility before God allows us to hear Him. Isn’t that the way we learn anything?

If I think I know the way to somewhere or to some thing — and I don’t, really — I’m going to make wrong turns or even get hopelessly lost. But if I am wise I will first get directions or stop my aimless and frustrating wandering to ask for directions.

“Your patient has become humble; have you drawn his attention to the fact? All virtues are less formidable to us once the man is aware that he has them, but this is specially true of humility. Catch him at the moment when he is really poor in spirit and smuggle into his mind the gratifying reflection, ‘By jove! I’m being humble!’, and almost immediately pride—pride at his own humility—will appear. If he awakes to the danger and tries to smother this new form of pride, make him proud of his attempt—and so on, through as many stages a you please. But don’t try this too long, for fear you may awake his sense of humour and proportion, in which case he will merely laugh at you and go to bed.”

  4. “So why don’t we see more Christians live empowered by God…?”

Because they’ve believed the wrong gospel of salvation, and so are very sincere, devout and “spiritual” [religious] but are still very lost.

“God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self control” (2 Timothy‬ ‭1:7‬).

TRUE. But the ‘us’ Paul spoke of is a very specifically identified group. Sadly, most of Christendom historically has never belonged to it and having fact opposed it, calling it heresy. They even do so today.

  5. Yup, too many people want to be stars of one sort or another. The 99% who don’t make it live lives of despair. Even those that become stars fall out of favor eventually, and the despair takes over.

God believers don’t need to be stars. God’s love and recognition is all we need.

  6. Life is a test for all of us. Do we measure up for what’s promised in the eternal kingdom?
I always try to keep in mind that life isn’t supposed to be easy, it’s a test!

  7. @Duna.

You sound like a nasty and cynical old Brit atheist…using a word like “bollocks”. The UK is a very inhospitable place for God worshippers, but very welcoming to Mohammed worshippers. Dumb and dumber is the phrase that comes to mind.

Y’all have gone way backwards since the courageous days of WWII.
