Just The News:

Joseph James DeAngelo, the former police officer convicted as the Golden State Killer for a brutal series of rapes, murders and kidnappings in California in the 1970s and 1980s, was sentenced Friday to 26 life sentences, bringing to a close an serial killer investigation that spanned nearly five decades.

DeAngelo began his spree in 1973 and finished in 1986, a period of time over which, per his eventual confession, he committed at least 13 kidnappings and 13 murders, among numerous other crimes.

As part of a plea deal orchestrated by Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Michael Bowman, DeAngelo will serve 11 life sentences without parole, along with an additional 15 life sentences plus eight years.

  1. It’s so hackneyed to write “brutal” in front of verbs like “murder” and “rape”. I’ve never seen the words “civilized” or “gentle” to describe these acts.

  2. Why is it I find myself wishing that the courts would have some of their family touched by this guy or someone like him so they would get a sense of what it’s like to have people you care about ripped away like trash? I all seems so heartless.

  3. So this scumbag killed a dozen people yet Killer Cuomo killed thousand in NY and one is serving life and the other has his ass kissed on CNN. Cuomo should be shot at dawn along with this sleaze.

  4. I doubt the old rapist serves long enough to endure much punishments for his evil deeds. He looks rather feeble. But who knows he might last longer than he looks able to – unless another inmate sends him on his way.

Interesting timing. I’m watching a show on ID channel, an episode of the Genetic Detective. About a rape in Utah. The DeAngleo case was mentioned. He was arrested before the suspect in Utah. But the Utah suspect went on trial first.

It was thought how the judge in Utah ruled on the genetic evidence presented in that trial might negatively effect DeAngelo’s trial. If the judge in Utah ruled that genetic information taken from genealogy DNA data bases, that enabled a suspect to be found via DNA of innocent relatives were ruled inadmissible in the trial. It was allowed. Clearing the way for a similar DNA trail to be used during the DeAngelo trial.

  5. 26 life terms means what, exactly?
Change the law so the first 2 murders get you the death penalty regardless of how you plead. Why should society at large be dunned for the care & incarceration of people who put themselves beyond the fellowship of other humans?
    They’re better as compost.
