Good Riddance To Drudge – IOTW Report

Good Riddance To Drudge

Townhall: It used to be a thrill for conservatives to get “Drudged” – to have their piece linked on the Drudge Report. It meant traffic (which translated into money) and that a large audience would see it. It probably still means those things, only now it means them to progressive writers and websites. Whatever Drudge was, it’s not anymore.

You’d be hard-pressed to spot the difference between the Drudge Report and the Huffington Post. Aside from his love of weather porn, Tom Brady, and anything Oprah or transgender-related, you might as well go to CNN. At least with CNN you’re getting it from the primary source.

There are all sorts of stories about what happened to Matt Drudge, as happens when someone is a paranoid recluse. Some say he sold the site to anti-Trumpists, others say he’s soured on Republicans because they didn’t build the wall. Rumors are rampant.

He may well have sold the site, it’s his to sell if he wanted to and who wouldn’t at least be tempted if someone drove a Brinks truck to your house and offered it to you so you wouldn’t have to work anymore?

The idea that Matt is upset that the wall isn’t completed doesn’t hold much water. He’s reportedly a lot of things, but stupid isn’t one of them. He knows how government works, or doesn’t.

Whatever it was that changed, the website has changed. Drudge doesn’t do original reporting, the idea that he’s a journalist was always laughable. He gets emails from reporters with the title of their piece and a link, then editors decide if it’s worth putting on the site. The “original reporting” he’s done, to the extent that he’s done it, is sent to him the same way, usually stories editors at other organizations spike or teasers for stories still in development. When someone in conservative media said “Drudge is reporting…” it was usually about a story that was going to run in the next couple of days at the Washington Post, New York Times, or somewhere else, not something he worked on. He doesn’t do that.

What Matt did do, better than almost anyone else, was find the nugget buried in a story that either wasn’t highlighted and should have been, or undercuts the liberal narrative. Drudge and his editors filtered through thousands of stories (emails, actually) to find those nuggets and shine a bright light on them. Since he turned on Republicans, that aspect from the Drudge Report is gone.

But did he really turn? Was Matt Drudge really a conservative or just an opportunist? more

  2. Matt Pudge reminds me of my only sibling who recently stabbed me in the back in the most disgusting sort of way. So like Matt Pudge, I’ve forever shunned that asshole as well. And Matt Pudge? You can go to Hell too as you fuck yourself on the way down.

  3. Drudge dating Ann Coulter didn’t help his mental health, I suspect. Both are unrecognizable anymore.

Drudge is an odd duck. I ran into him at the bar at CPAC many years ago and bought him a drink. We chatted briefly and I found him to be stand-offish and peculiar. Full of himself.

  4. Drudge has just one overarching passion, it’s not any deeply held political view, it’s money!
And just like politicians he tastes the winds and makes a judgement which direction to go for his own benefit.
    A man of true character {sarc}

  5. In 1998-99 to about 2016 I use to click on Drudge 1st thing every morning followed by a bookmarked list of the best Web Sites and later to include Blogs for Factual NEWS and Information. Many times sites on both political side to glean the real facts.

THE DRUDGE NOSE DIVE INTO ANTI-USA & TRUMP.
Given a person could spend hours searching the Internet for
“Who Owns of Drudge Report” with limited date range: 2019-2020
and not a get clear answer.

BUT! what is clear is the new owner(s) are hiding the info for most likely political reasons.

Which only adds more credence to the speculation DRUDGE HAS SOLD OUT. Otherwise why else so obviously go to great efforts to hide it from the readers.

Like many now, I wonder what the $$$M price of selling out America values goes for today?

  6. When the economy totally collapses and the Internet is centrally censored and controlled, THEN a thread about “The Good Old Days” would be appropriate. Until then, this discussion is simply rearranging the deck chairs on the TITANIC.

    Yeah, I said it.

  7. Just another “all about the power or money” story with
these things. Ultra rich Lefties will pour money into a shitty rag like Bezos does and never count the cost.

  8. I noticed the turn a year ago and stopped visiting. If I wanted that crap all I would need to do is talk to my CNN watching mother. Last weekend she claimed to have never hears of Antifa and agreed that federal troops were preparing to keep Trump in office and were Stormtroopers.

  9. When you’re worth millions and live in a ramshackle house on the edge of The Everglades swamp, peculiar is one way to describe him.
I picture him and Janet Reno (may he RIP) sitting in rocking chairs on his porch, swatting flies and sniffing each other’s armpits.

  10. Everything changes but this does suck.

Drudge was my morning cup of coffee, OK – 4 cups.
Before his site I would look at the news stories and could link them in way the media missed or just didn’t care.
Drudge linked stuff the way I did in my head, put there in the same group of other stories I had not even considered.

Now? I do not even look. A few months ago it all went to hell. I thought he was on Vaca and students were running the place.

Like Fox, why would you take a large audence and flush it to be like the rest? So you buy a site like Drudge and look at Huf Po circuling the drain and say, oh yeah, I want to be like them.
