ET: SPRINGFIELD, Ill.—Legislation proposing the separation of Chicago from Illinois is intended to spark discussion about the overarching influence of the city in state politics, not actually lead to the creation of the 51st state, according to a central Illinois lawmaker who sponsored the measure.
GOP state Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer, the bill’s sponsor, said the proposal would urge U.S. Congress to make the nation’s third-largest city its own state, the State Journal-Register reported.
“It’s more of a frustration of the policies than the true belief that Chicago and Illinois would be better off as separate states,” Davidsmeyer said. “I don’t believe that Chicago and the state of Illinois should be separated. Our relationship is mutually beneficial.”
Chicago needs to recognize how its policies impact rural Illinois, Davidsmeyer added.
“The reality is, the city of Chicago is competing with New York City and L.A. and San Francisco, and (downstate is) competing against rural Indiana and rural Missouri,” he said. “The policies that come down from Chicago are actually pushing our economic opportunity away.”
GOP state Rep. Brad Halbrook introduced the proposed measure in February. He co-sponsored a similar proposal last year that failed, and this year’s attempt has even less of a chance of succeeding in the Democratic-controlled Legislature. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the leaders of the state House and Senate are all Democrats from Chicago.

My home state, where many years ago Democrats made it part of the state constitution that teachers would get guaranteed pay raises no matter what. Now they’re broke.

That’s why the instant the electoral college goes away, LA, Chicago, DC, New York, Seattle, San Fransicko, etc will be running the whole country. All the rural and suburban citizens will have become nothing more than serfs. The Middle Ages hierarchy will have come full circle.
If that ever happens. The urban areas should stop all trucks and traffic going to those cities.

Chicago already operates like a second state capital. Not a bad idea to make at least it a territory separate from Illinois. BTW, the scourge of Chicago hit downstate Illinois, in the late 80s, early ninties when an Obama supported mandate relocated Cabrini Green residents to my hometown. It damaged that little city’s economy and as you guessed it, crime increased significantly. Chicago has no regard for the rest of the state.
Where’s that little chihuahua Luis Gutierrez been hiding? Haven’t heard a yap out of him since he left congress. Is he south of the border herding “his people” towards the US or in Poo-err-toe Rrrrrrico with the mayor of San Juan shaking down US taxpayers for more “hurricane relief” moolah?

A drop of oil over the little suckers sometimes worked to get them to back out for air or back in the day a lit cigarette butt next to their ass usually got them to back out… Then you give them their reward for taking their last meal.

A great idea that won’t work here in Oregon. We would have to separate all of Multnomah and Washington county, plus Salem, Eugene, Ashland, and the West half of Medford. Maybe we could just excise a strip 20 miles wide along the whole length of I-5, and give it to California.
I still remember the Don’t Californicate Oregon signs on I-5 back in the early 70’s.
Each state need it’s own electoral collage for state elections to give equal representation to rural areas.
