Gov. Greg Abbott Returns $10,000 Donation After Donor Insinuates Money Is Insurance For Political Appointment

DC: A Texas developer who pledged $10,000 to Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s campaign had his donation returned to him after insinuating that his contribution would clinch his appointment to the state Board of Regents.

“You make a large donation to the governor, and in turn you are eligible for appointment to the Board of Regents,” George McMahan, a real estate developer in Lubbock, told the ABC affiliate, KAMC, reflecting his aspirations to be on the Texas Tech University board.

“What this individual suggested is not only false, but also illegal,” said Ciara Matthews, a spokeswoman for Abbott, in a statement to the Houston Chronicle. “Because of the unfortunate comments, the donation was returned. This is not how the Governor does business.”  read more

  1. Long time reader…but never commented. Vietvet is so right on the lack of integrity in the Texas Republican Party…who are totally down with winking at the total lawlessness of an unsecured vote. Big zero nada been done to ensure only registered citizens vote in Nov, because the entire Texas Republican Party is selling the unity of state and church and that our Christian mission is to allow the power of the State enforce our charitable giving. Impoverishing your neighbor in service to God from the Texas Republican Party while the Texas Democrats are calling for illegales to be normalized BEFORE they even leave their South of the Border nation.
What could possibly go wrong??? the entire Texas Republican Party is full of hucksters of nihilism.
