Climate Change, Covid spread, whatever – but certain jobs are more efficient working from home. My sister has worked for AT&T for several years, originally 100% work from home. Then they changed to minimum 4 days per week at the office. She only interacts with one person there, he’s on her level job-wise, and they could just as easily have talked on the phone or by computer. So it really depends on the job – and if employee morale is the issue then maybe it’s the company and not the employees.
