‘Gretchen Whitmer Is A Ghoul’: Tucker Wonders Why ‘People Rotting In Wheelchairs’ Is Allowed But Abortion Is ‘Essential’

Daily Caller: Fox News host Tucker Carlson called Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer a “ghoul” for enacting statewide coronavirus measures that consider abortion “essential” while outlawing surgeries like joint replacements.

During the Friday night “Tucker Carlson Tonight” monologue, Carlson called attention to people in need of medical and dental procedures that have been outlawed, people “suffering in silence” because of the pain such procedures often alleviate.

“We’ve all been told we must sacrifice for the sake of the country, but is there a good reason these people are suffering?” the Fox News host said before questioning the logic of banning surgeries like joint replacements that can keep people from being immobilized.

“People don’t get joint replacements lightly,” he said. “Every joint replacement is essential by definition. This isn’t Botox. When joints go bad, bone grinds on bone. People can’t walk. They wind up in wheelchairs, which frequently leads to a cascade of health disasters. Immobility kills people. It happens all the time. ‘Tough luck,’ says Gretchen Whitmer. Scheduled joint replacements are now illegal in the state of Michigan. Performing one is a criminal act.” read more

  1. I can’t add to what @Hambone said.
Other than to add that Virginia gov KKK declared that he also wishes the continued slaughter of unborn black babies. Haircuts in VA. Illegal.
    Abortions? Full speed ahead.

  2. Whitmer is evil; so is Planned Parenthood.

That said, what is the goal sought to be achieved by this argument? To preach to the choir and get plaudits? Ot to maybe change some minds.

Abortion versus hip replacement is a bad analogy. I’ve been contemplating a hip replacement for some years. I do sometimes wheel around in a wheel chair. By contrast, abortion is time-limited. It can’t be done after a certain period of time. Hip replacement for worn-out joints does not pose that problem. By contrast again, if someone falls and breaks a hip, the hospitals will do emergency hip surgery because irreparable harm will ensue if it’s not done. Again, time-limited.

I suppose I’m being too calculatingly political. But the hearts and minds of those who consider themselves to be “pro-choice” albeit with limits (most of them) who might otherwise rally to the cause of doing something against the current tyrannical Democrat diktat (and consider maybe leaning Republican) are likely to be turned off by the incessant injection of stopping abortion into everything.

Not only is the analogy bad, but abortion isn’t a specific-to-COVID-19 issue. So raising it in light of the wrongful deprivation of our constitutional liberties is as opportunistic as what the other side is doing and it’s counterproductive. It’s a turn-off. Again, what’s the goal of making the argument.

You are certainly not trying to talk them into agreeing that their abominable choices mean that they agree that they will never be allowed to participate in ruling the rest of us, ever, again. Even if that is not what they think it means, when they agree to it. You want them, or at least claim to want them, to continue sleeping among us. With the full option to resume their spree killings on a whim. Any whim at all. Or, at least, you claim to.

    Confused. And wrong.

It is counterproductive and stupid to keep throwing pro-life issues into the faces of the millions of brainwashed one-issue voters who would vote Republican but for the reminder that “eeeek, my abortion rights are the first thing they want to take away, no can do.”

It is especially foolish to do so using a bad non-analogy that is easily countered. Bad logic isn’t going to “talk them into agreeing that their abominable choices mean that they agree that they will never be allowed to participate in ruling the rest of us“.

  4. Anonymous, guess what, look around. Five decades since Roe v. Wade, and who are making the rules. It’s getting worse and worse. I’m frustrated. I’m not interested in preaching or virtue-signaling. I’d rather see conservatives get enough political power to accomplish something.

  5. Point is it is either. Elective surgery or it’s not. If my dad has to wait to have his knee replaced and deal with the pain, so he doesn’t inadvertently “kill” someone by having pain relieving surgery then why shouldn’t someone else also sacrifice by carrying the baby to term if needed and give it up for adoption so as to not put other peoples live in “danger”. Think of the children of the doctors and nurses. My 14 yo has one bad tooth- low enamel. Was supposed to have it taken care of March 20. He is living with the sensitivity pain because our only option is to wait it out because the procedure required is not considered an emergency. A 14 yo can’t take Advil or Tylenol for 2 or three weeks never mind 2 or three months. So we wait. My dad still hobbles around in pain without complaining. The girl who had unprotected sex or messed up her birth control can wait. If it’s too long a wait, too bad . Why not make adoption agencies essential services you can do that with Zoom. We are all being asked to sacrifice for the greater good isn’t that the mantra.

  6. Stood in line to get into a Michigan Sam’s Club yesterday morning. Not a bad experience really. Scored a victory by getting a package of toilet paper and paper towels. In the middle where they have gardening supplies and summer furniture it was roped off. People with carts walking all around but you can’t buy that stuff. Completely ridiculous. Our governor truly is an idiot.
