Harvard plays the blame game with former prof in alleged grant fraud case

Campus Reform:

A settlement has been reached after allegations that a Harvard researcher overstated her hours worked on a federally funded project.

Harvard University will pay $1,359,791 to the federal government after Donna Spiegelman, a former professor at the T.H. Chan School of Public Health, allegedly overcharged federal grants funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Health Resources and Services Administration to conduct research.

Harvard examined the research of Spiegelman’s team from 2009-2014, found some potential inaccuracies, and self-disclosed them in 2016.

The self-disclosure led to the resulting settlement with the federal government.

  1. Everyone knows there are not enough internal or external auditors to oversee anything like periodic audits of grant monies. There’s living to be made just in being a professional grant writer. That’s how lucrative federal grants are; they have created their own constellation of professions.

We American taxpayers have got to stop shrugging our shoulders and thinking this is just the cost of doing business.

  2. Slash those grants by at least 90% until we pay off the national debt. If no one in the government has the brains and balls, I’m offering my services.

  3. If they have so many grants that they can’t keep them straight, they have way too many grants.

Any private company that pulled a stunt like billing all projects whether or not work was performed on them would be sued into oblivion, just like most colleges should be.

  4. Unfortunately, a lot of grant-funded researchers regard that money as rightfully theirs regardless of how much actual time/work they put in. Somebody with a 2×4 should inform them that what they’ve got is LOOT and not earnings.

I’m not proffering any services. I’ve got the brains. To slash the national debt by 100%. If you’ve got the balls… well, let’s be honest… if you had the balls, I’d already be in touch. (No homo.) So, if you grow a few… you know what to do.

  6. It seems to me that there are so many different games now, I used to love ordinary video games like counter strike, but then it turned into something more from the moment I learned how to make money with them using the site https://csgobettings.com/ where I use various top-end betting platforms. I like what I do and if you are interested in it, then you can also try, there is nothing complicated about it.
