Have Americans become a people who no longer deserve their Constitution?

American Thinker:

By R.W. Trewyn

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.”

Only moral and religious people?  Who said that about the Constitution?

Someone who would know: John Adams, America’s first vice president and second president, who served on the First Continental Congress and helped draft the Declaration of Independence.

Adams went on to say immediately thereafter, “It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”  In other words, it’s “wholly inadequate to the government of” an immoral and godless people.

Sadly, in 2022, there’s no shortage of those in America.

For individuals who have never read the Constitution, the preamble lays out the intent: more here

  1. Well there is a divide, some do and some don’t. To those who believe that the constitution is worth abiding by and our best hope to preserve our democracy I say yes. To those who are only concerned about getting and holding onto power and see it as an outdated,out of touch document (obstacle to their ends) and want to change it I say no.

  2. 235 years ago, Alexander Tyler summed it up.

    From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to complacency; From complacency to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.

    Now, to much of the population hovers between complacency and dependence.
    I have tried to have discussions with people that just shut down.
    They can’t even phantom the idea that the government or the media would lie to them.
    Vladimir Lenin – A lie told often enough becomes the truth.
    To lazy or stupid to find the truth?

  3. America will never return without a major flush. This is global corruption.
    The lairs, cheats, and pedophiles, have assumed control.
    Can anybody claim the their congress persons have actually represented them?
    The SCOTUS, Whitehouse, Congress,……..FLUSH.

  4. Agree with the others, we need the Constitution and that’s all there is to it. Deserve is irrelevant.

    A friend posted this today:
    “Doesn’t matter what the press says. Doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right.
    This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — “No, YOU move.”

  5. Yes.

    The number of Americans among the total citizenry of United States is a severely small minority, enough so to make the question moot.

    The good news is that we only need twelve to begin to re-establish the Republic; the Founders won a war with three percent of the population, establishing the original political entity.

  6. Everything that’s befallen us is, at root, because lust for money, which always equals lust for power over others.

    Think about it: there’s almost no one on the global scene today who wants leave others alone. If they did we’d never hear about them. Fame isn’t enough. They lust for power over others.

  7. We don’t deserve the Constitution.

    We ALSO don’t deserve salvation.

    But salvation was given us as a freely given gift by the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ

    We can never make ourselves worthy of that,

    But we CAN make ourselves worthy of the Constitution.

    The worst they can do is kill us.

    And in the Blood, that means they can only send us to our Lord…

    Review these lesser-known verses of the Battle Hymn of the Republic to see how these things go together.

    Particularly the LAST verse…

    “ewVideosLyricsListenOther recordings
    Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
    He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
    He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
    His truth is marching on.
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    His truth is marching on.
    I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps;
    They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
    I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps,
    His day is marching on.
    I have read His fiery gospel writ in rows of burnished steel!
    “As ye deal with my condemners, so with you My grace shall deal!
    Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel, ”
    Since God is marching on.
    He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
    He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
    Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him; be jubilant, my feet!
    Our God is marching on.
    In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
    With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
    As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free!
    While God is marching on.”

    “As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free”.

    …lots of wisdom there.

    Kind of reminds me of what a wise man once said about refreshing the Tree of Liberty…

  8. If these moral and godly people had done the right thing instead of caving, the churches would have led the fight against this medical tyranny. Instead, except for a very few, they let them close their churches and their mouths.

  9. I think we deserve the constitution more today than we ever have.

    I’m basing my comparison on the fact that while the Constitution was being written in Philadelphia, the moral and religious people of that very city were busing stoning to death some old German lady named Kobold for being a witch.

    Nobody owns slaves anymore and women can vote. Not that they should….but they can if they want.

    So, other than women voting, I’d say we’ve come pretty far.

  10. Burr, historian of the obscure JANUARY 15, 2022 AT 2:40 PM

    “Nobody owns slaves anymore and women can vote.”

    …I bet there’s places we could go to in Dearborn, Minneapolis, and pretty much anywhere that has a mosque and find that isn’t necessarily true anymore about the slavery.

    They probably DO let them vote, though.

    Or, FORCE them to vote.

    Democrat.

    Because Mad Mo and his disciples says you DON’T vote for your leaders, a!!ah gives them to you, BUT it’s OK to to vote in places where you’re taking over in the West PROVIDED you use your vote to screw them up as much as possible.

    So Muslims ALWAYS vote for the candidate that is BAD for America.

    …which is why they are always so fervently Democrat…

  11. It’s not an American thing.

    Too many people work in Bullshit Offices, doing Bullshit Jobs, in a Bullshit artificial environment.

    It disconnects people from the reality that life is also Physically Tough, as well as mentally tough.

    the soy crowd is willing to give away America because they actually Have NO IDEA HOW HARD IT WAS TO BUILD IN THE FIRST PLACE. Physically, Financially, & Intellectually.

    SOFT PEOPLE giving away what they did not earn.

    Canada is no Different.

  12. Wow. It’s like anonymous’s ol’ lady left him and took his dawg.

    Well, what else can you expect when you let ladies vote.
