LAHAINA (HawaiiNewsNow) – Six people have been confirmed killed in the raging wildfires that have decimated entire Maui communities, but authorities feared that number could rise as flames are slowly beaten down and emergency responders are able to move in.
The fires are still active and out of control, which means a full picture of the devastation hasn’t yet come into view. But officials say at least 20 people sustained serious injuries, thousands of people are displaced, and the county’s emergency response is near a breaking point.
Richard Olsten, a helicopter pilot who flew over Lahaina town on Wednesday morning, said much of the historic town appears gone. “It’s like an area was bombed. It’s like a war zone,” he said. MORE
Very sad. I’ve been to Lahaina half a dozen times over the years. Like most of Maui, it was pristine and tranquil up until the early 2000s, when it turned overcrowded and touristy. Not my favorite Island but I feel for the long-time residents. Living in California I know all about wildfires.
I have been there a few times, and it just breaks my heart to see this. This is quite the blow to Hawaii and tourism, double it up with covid, it’s devastating. Cruise ships stop there, but not anymore!
Back when I was young and single I spent quite a few of my days off at the Pioneer Inn. Probably not there anymore. Lots of good times at the Blue Max too. They seemed to get some genuine headliners to play there. That was a fun place in the 70’s to the early 90’s. It did get too crowded though.
Wildfires.
A. Set by wild arson?
B. Set by wildly mismanaged forest?
C. Set by wild climate change?
D. Actually a wildfire?
Too easy.
AHHH! GLOBAL WARMING! INDICT TRUMP! AHHHH! AHHHH!
Our favorite vacation destination is Maui. Although we stay on the Wailea end. Lahaina is our favorite little town and our favorite restaurant, Kemo’s, is ashes. Oh well. We’ve got rooms a flights booked for October. Should be interesting.
They have a tree over there the natives claim is 1000 years old. A sacred tree. It’s close to the shore line and they’ve build a huge park around it. Gone. Very sad shit going on over there and it’s only going to get worse. Lahaina had many building built at the turn of the century. If you scrape away all the touristy shit that town held a lot of really cool history. Such a shame.
^^^ A banyon tree, it burned down? Damn
According to Wiki, that tree was planted in 1873.
New resort area for the rich and treasonists.
Burning off the poorer folks so the rich can have their own private paradise?
^^^^ No guys. Lahiana is a tourist destination. They would be cutting their own throats destroying it.
Check this photo and tell me where the heavy forestation is.

You know all that extremely green flat shit you’re looking at. I can’t remember if it were sugar Cain or pineapple but no matter. Ground level that shits way over your head. And this time of year it’s brown and dead.
Just sayen, there was plenty of fuel.
Banyan tree is fire-damaged, but may survive.
