The George Washington Bicentennial Commission, established in 1924, collected this commemorative chart of battles, leaders, and milestones of the Revolutionary War and deposited it in the National Archives.
The Commission, appointed by Calvin Coolidge, worked through the 1920s to plan activities to commemorate the anniversary of Washington’s 1732 birth. As part of this mission, the commission collected graphic materials and photographs related to Washington. We don’t have specific identifying information related to this chart, in the form of a tree, beyond its having been collected by this commission. It’s not clear who the original artist might have been, and when the chart might first have been printed.

The roots of the tree make a historical argument about the causes of the war. “Taxation without representation” is the strongest root, central to the tree’s structure (and showing a jagged rip at the bottom, perhaps a reference to the violence of the war). “Acts of Parliament” and “Colonial Events” form other major parts of the root structure, while the root named “Perversity of George III” dangles, an unrelated wild card.

Your thoughts on the branches that would sprout from a modern day revolutionary tree? I say, ObamaCare, would be the trunk.
*I find it kinda odd that Slate and HuffPoo have relatively unbiased and interesting American History blogs on their sites. What’s with that?
Washington: “I chopped down that cherry tree”
obama: “if you like your plan you can keep your plan period”.
via Slate? Where does it blame Bush?
Bill, you mean… US Dept of Education and other revisionist Leftards, “Washington chopped down his father’s cherry tree!”.
That is equivalent to the statement made by Barryaka, both lies told to the American people about great Americans, by un-American Communist subversives!
As far as my understanding of what would be the main root of the Obama Tree, I would have to say that the birth certificate obfuscation and the lies and manipulation regarding Bho’s eligibility are the initial root of the corruption. The media has ridiculed most of us into silence on the issue, but the “man” has still never produced any credible proof that he was Constitutionally eligible to run for office!!! Everything after that is just consequences of our failure as a nation to demand verification that he’s elegible!!!
I just read the book, ‘To Try Men’s Souls’ about George Washington and the battle of Trenton during the Revolutionary War. I had no idea of the severity these men went through. It’s a wonder we won at all.
What kept them together and fighting was the concept of freedom. Everything was against them. The weather, the superior German army that the British hired to fight for them, many colonists turning traitor defecting the continental army and their countrymen siding with the British after it looked like they would win. My God, it’s a wonder we still aren’t a British colony.
But one thing stood out – the faith that Washington placed in the men he commanded and the faith the men had in their commander. On top of all that was the faith they all had in the rightness of their cause and that God would see them through.
Everything was against them since the start of the campaign; the winter storm, men poorly equipped in clothing, guns and ammo, and the failure of one whole group of the army to even join them as planned.
The fact that they were several hours into the morning and supposedly lost their advantage of surprise made them all realize they were marching to their death. But they still marched.
It wasn’t until they were in the thick of battle that Washington realized that they might survive.
I wonder if we could do the same today.
Notice how the conditions in CT are similar to those prevailing in the early 1770’s.
I just read this book about Washington’s New York spy ring. Their heroic efforts not only helped win the war, but also most likey saved Washington from being captured and hung.

“The Perversity of George III”? Really???
Although, it is an interesting graphic.
We all hear the story about Washington chopping down the cherry tree and, of course, his false teeth. He was in fact a tall, vigorous and charismatic man. He was an inventor, entrepreneur and land speculator. Did you know he made the decision to vaccinate new recruits to the army for smallpox? Innovative at the time. He won a war with so few resources. And after, his ambitions for the Republic he fought so hard to create were also innovative. While others were busy working on the Constitution he was making plans to transform the Potomac River into a commercial artery linking the eastern seaboard to the west. This was the framework for one unified, booming nation. Freedom and Capitalism. This was a man truly deserving to be called Father of our Country.
And, yes Claudia, I totally agree with you.
Where are the muslim names? obumbum said they were instrumental in the formation of this country.
Huh. Slate, eh?
So many parallels. The abuses of power by the “crown”, the taxation without (proper) representation……..
I see similarities everywhere I look. My only question……what will be the catalyst?
