I never was a hi-fi & vinyl connoisseur, left all my albums with a bandmate when I moved out and never looked back. It didn’t bother me when music went to tape, then CD, then digital.
All this moaning about how digital music reproduction is crude and impure doesn’t concern me, which I guess is weird, because I’m a musician, and O have a good ear for pitch. Maybe it’s because I’m not a very good musician and content with anything that sounds as good as what came out of the AM radio in the car when I was ten. The song remains the same even if my hearing doesn’t.
Anyway, here’s a hint for vinyl hunters: Goodwill still has some real gems on the record shelf, and they come cheap…for now. But you’d best have a taste for one hit wonders, Engelbert Humperdinck, oldish country music and gospel booming out of your quadrophonic stereo setup.
Me? I just take pictures of the album covers and send them to my kids. That’s usually the best part of a LP anyway.

At the top of the line / leading edge tech you are definitely blowing high dough.
An original LP is pricey like a 58 Stingray, a re-press 180 Gram is $40 like a Hyundai.
An espresso Machine can be $5,000, a basic Drip is $60 – $80, a stove top Italian maker is $40 (the moka pot)
Carbon Street race bike $14,000, Hi quality Aluminium FAT BIKE with Good Shimano parts is $1200 & GOOD ALL YEAR ROUND -even snow. (I’ll be riding mine today for Cost of Chain oil)
Wilson Combat 1911’s $3000-$6000, Glock $800-1200
Winchester pump, vs Benelli M4
Rolex Day Date $40,000, Seiko Turtle Automatic Day Date $500
And Makers Mark is a pretty good all rounder for $30 $40 Canuckistan Bucks in Alberta.

I had no idea I was cool. I like to make sourdough and still have lots of my old LPs. Getting time to pull out the old Ramsey Lewis Christmas album.

My favorite hobby — home sewing and machine embroidery — was ruined by quilters. Quilters caused the price of affordable cotton fabrics to jump into the stratosphere. I could make a pair of great Christmas p.j.s and school clothing for much less than the cost to buy off the rack. And that included the cost of the pattern and all the notions. Now the simplest garment with little embellishment is way to costly to make.
Even worse, now we’ve lost all of America’s great textile factories and all but one fabric store has gone out of business in the Greater Seattle area. The one that is left has nothing but “seconds” and trash fabric, which leaves only the alternative to purchase fabric online. How can you tell the exact color, weight, hand, drape, and weave of a fabric from an online color swatch? You can’t.

Reloading components!
Price of powder, primers and bullets is insane. Not to mention the brass that I luckily have a lifetime supply stashed. Never really did it for cost savings as much as chasing the “accurate load.” Now depending on what you’re shooting, factory can be cheaper.
Then too, many times the components weren’t even to be found or had at any price. That’s when they stopped laughing at what I had squirreled away. “Can I have…”

General aviation used to be wide open for average folk. Now, you literally have to be a millionaire to own and operate a Cessna 150 without going broke or flying an unsafe aircraft.
