Hong Kong pro-democracy candidates facing disqualification

Authorities to check political stances of candidates before determining eligibility.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Several pro-democracy candidates for Hong Kong’s upcoming legislative election received letters from the Electoral Affairs Commission on Saturday (July 25) that questioned their opposing stances toward Beijing’s national security law for Hong Kong and their support for foreign sanctions on the Special Administrative Region.

The questions in the letters vary from candidate to candidate, but they mainly focus on the following domains: whether they support foreign sanctions for the territory, whether they will boycott all the government’s budget plans to achieve their demands once elected, whether they advocate Hong Kong’s independence, and whether they object to the national security law. read more

  1. The ChiCom government is imploding. Hong Kong was their cash cow and path to money laundering. Now anyone who can is bailing and the reds are realizing their up to their eyeballs in debt.

    The Hong Kongers are probably thinking the Brits weren’t doing them any favors by leaving.
