Hospice nurse who amputated patient’s foot without permission for use in sickening taxidermy display escapes jail sentence

NYPost: A Wisconsin nurse who amputated a patient’s frostbitten foot without authorization and planned to use it as a ghoulish display in her family’s taxidermy shop was given a sweetheart plea deal in which she’ll serve no time in prison and pay just $443 in court costs.

Mary K. Brown, 40, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of negligently abusing a 62-year-old patient at Spring Valley Senior Living and Healthcare Campus in 2022 for the rogue surgical procedure.

  1. First thing I thought of was; I’ll bet Miss Piggy is one of those who think teachers own our kids too and can do whatever they please.
Yes the guy was in really bad shape, but without a doctor’s order you don’t take it upon yourself to perform surgical procedures to to mention that she’s not a surgeon!!

Maybe she’s making a man one piece at a time…
I’d get it one piece at a time
And it wouldn’t cost me a dime
You’ll know it’s me when I come through your town
I’m gonna ride around in style
    I’m gonna drive everybody wild
‘Cause I’ll have the only one there is around

  2. Typically there is a family member, or friend, that is considered the primary care person.

Apparently the family was unable or unwilling to assist in his care.

My prayers go out to him – may God rest his soul.

At least the ‘nurse’ is no longer in the healthcare industry.

  3. When my dad was in the hospital for a correction of an earlier surgical error my brother and I gently but persistently bullied the male doctors and nurses -except one obvious flamer- and flirted outrageously with the ladies on staff. The flamer did get a little flirting, we flipped a coin for that duty. They knew we were there and they knew we would be back every day until his stay was over. Never, ever leave an elder alone in the hands of a medical institution.

  4. There was a great picture this morning about giving your dog a turkey leg with a sneaker on one end and letting it patrol your yard. Wish I could find it again, I’d post the URL.

  5. You know, I could have sworn one needed to be an actual surgeon, you know, with an actual license to practice medicine if one wanted to perform surgery on a still living human being. Color me surprised

  6. Walter, we did the same when my Grandmother had to have a stay in a nursing facility because of a broken hip.
Because of the constant visitation from family and
friends (including cousins who were nurses and familiar with the facility) she had great care and her roommate also received better care while Grandma was there.
    Everything you said is correct.
