House passes reconciliation bill to dismantle Obamacare

BPR: The House voted 240-189 largely along party lines Friday to pass a reconciliation bill that will dismantle key Obamacare provisions and defund Planned Parenthood for a year.

The legislation eliminates the individual and employer mandate, the Cadillac tax, the medical device tax and the Independent Payment Advisory Board.

Rep. Collin Peterson, a pro-life Minnesota Democrat, was the only member of his party to vote with Republicans.

“With this bill, we can finally confront the president with the reality confronting working families every day: higher costs and lower quality,” said House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. “We can put on the president’s desk a bill that will dismantle Obamacare and lay the foundation for a patient-centered system. This bill would give patients more control over their health care, and now I urge the Senate to approve it.”

  1. It’s a good start.

Senators voting against this because “it doesn’t go far enough” Rubio, Cruz and Lee had better come up with a very good argument against. Otherwise they are toast.

  2. What I don’t understand is WHY do they have to attach Planned Parenthood in this bill? That is a topic that will NEVER make it through, and therefore fuck the Obamacare getting through. Make PP a separate issue on its OWN bill. To me, they DON’T want to dismantle Obamacare. Bunch of BS.

Obamacare alone is KILLING our economy. I can’t tell you how many businesses are getting super fucked do to this Law, alone. And it’s not even active in FULL FORCE. Drives me crazy!

  3. With or without the ‘planned parenthood’ rider, the bill is DOA at President Obama’s desk. There is no reason for any Republican to vote against it; it gives the Rinos’ cover for their next election…”Hey, I voted to dismantle Obamacare…”

  4. Obama’s never going to get a chance to veto it; it’s never going to make it through the Senate. If the Senators can’t stand up enough to stop the Iran treaty, what makes you think they’ll stand up to crap on Obama’s signature legislation?

  5. boehner must have negotiated this legislation with pelosi.
More RINO deception and tricks to gain support for Ryan as speaker and bolster the establishment GOP.

Why defund planned Parenthood for “one” year?
Why use piece meal defunding of certain provisions of the Obamacare act?

No balls. Either kill Obamacare and eliminate all funding for Planned Parenthood or go home with your tail between your legs.

RINOs using this feeble attempt as a litmus test for Conservatives is utter bullshit.
The establishment GOP is a master at bullshit, deception and doing a half assed job. Thanks again, boehner .

  6. Stand up against the Iran treaty? The Repugs passed it with the Corker law.

This is a deception. The GOPe wants Obamacare. They need to payoff their donors.

  7. When the Supreme Court agreed with Obama that the PPACA was a tax, there was NEVER a chance of it being repealed.

Personally, I believe that Justice Roberts didn’t go far enough. He should have ordered that the bill go back to the authoring house (in this case the Senate) and that every instance of the word “penalty” should be replaced with the word “tax.” Then pass it on to the House and if they vote to pass, it goes to Obama’s desk to sign.

That simple failure by Roberts will mean their decision will be misinterpreted for as long as this abortion is law.

  8. Ted Cruz has been saying that the GOPe has been planning to propose a bill that is practically toothless. It would be only a “show” to fool the conservative base into thinking that they are “trying” to accomplish something. That would get them out of the promises they made in order to be elected. They have no intention of getting rid of Obamacare, nor defund PP.

I don’t understand the politics of proposing worthless bills, so I emailed Ted Cruz to ask him why he doesn’t support this bill. I hope he replies, even if it’s a form reply. I’ll let you know.

PS, maybe if enough people contact him to ask this, he will come out with a clarifying statement.

  9. Nothing to see here, folks. Just political professional wrestling. The Republicans could defund ObamaCare if the really wanted it gone.

Truth is, the Republicans want ObamaCare more than the Dims because Big Business (who own the Repubs) wants desperately to transfer health care costs from employers to the taxpayer.

Don’t believe the Republican Establishment hype.
