House to vote this week on bill to allow staffers to unionize

Just the News-

The Democrat-controlled House is set to vote this week on legislation that would allow Capitol Hill staffers to unionize.

The decision to hold a vote – amid staffers’ increasingly public comments and efforts to address low pay, long hours and mean bosses – was announced Friday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“Congressional staffers deserve the same fundamental rights and protections as workers all across the country, including the right to bargain collectively,” the California Democrat said in her letter to colleagues.

Though the bill is unlikely to make it through the Senate, if the House passes it, it will take effect in the lower chamber due to the Congressional Accountability Act. more

  1. It’s interesting that the staffers have to unionize. Why the heck are the members of Congress paying them more already? Oh, wait, that’s right, don’t do what I do, do what I say (they tell the world to pay their employees a living wage, but they don’t have to do that for their own staffers. What a bunch of a-holes).

  2. It was $10,000 upfront for John George to go NABET. NABET wasn’t tied to CWA at the time. Pathetic. John was pissing himself. I was Staff, non-union, Blue Badge. I could go anywhere and do anything. But I fought for that, and the people who hired me fought for that.

  3. I saw that congressional staffers maximum salary was $193,000, more that congress pay.
Does that mean they would take a pay cut?
That is also why they hire a lot of family members.
Keep the money in the family.

  4. Brad… I told ABC I would not accept the job if it was a union job. Capital Cities fought for months on my title, and finally granted me SCE.
