How the media ignores pattern of Democrats’ attacks on the courts

The Hill| Jonathan Turley: “I am from Brooklyn.” Those words from Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer were meant to excuse threats he made against two conservative justices the day before on the steps of the Supreme Court. His “apology” seemed to be a mix of claiming a license for all New Yorkers to use “strong language” and claiming justification because some justices are “working hand in glove” with Republicans. It was like a bizarre road rage defense from a Brooklyn driver who apologizes but explains that it was all due to the lousy driving of the other guy.

The problem, however, is that this is part of a pattern of Democratic leaders attacking and threatening jurists if they rule the “wrong” way in cases. Although Senate Minority Whip Richard Durbin advised the public “not to dwell” on the comments by Schumer, there is more to dwell on than just this incident. Indeed, various Democratic senators, including Durbin, have made threats against the Supreme Court and the judiciary.

It is certainly true that the media has not dwelled on these attacks, at least not from Democrats. For three years, another New Yorker has used “strong language” to attack jurists, and many of us have criticized President Trump for those comments. Not surprisingly, Schumer has not cited a New York license for Trump to do as he did, perhaps because Trump was born in Queens. Indeed, Schumer went on the Senate floor recently to denounce Trump for criticizing the judge in the trial of Roger Stone. Schumer called on Chief Justice John Roberts to “defend the independence” of the judiciary from such attacks.

Roberts did speak out, but against Schumer, not Trump. The reason is that, unlike Schumer, Trump did not threaten the judge. The criticism was still highly inappropriate, as many of us said at the time, but was not a threat. It was not like the declaration by Schumer that two conservative justices “will not know what hit” them if they “go forward with these awful decisions.” read more

There sure is mire to dwell on. We still want to know why James Hodgkinson emailed Dick Durbin before Hodgkinson tried to massacre GOP leadership on a softball field. The media ignores Democrat attacks on Republicans, not just judges. Let us see the emails, Dick. What did you know, and when did you know it?

  2. Hell, when you have the fourth branch of government covering your ass, you can say any damn thing you want to with impunity, no consequences, and with praise and adulation even.

Thank God for Andrew Breitbart and the rise of citizen journalists.

  3. This shit makes me wish I had a Superpower.
My Superpower would be to be able to kick a kickball into my Magic TV and have that kickball bash whomever is on the screen right in the face. Just like I was eight feet away. The kickball would appear out of thin air 1 millimeter from the hapless victim’s face, so there is no defense.
Hey, I could miss. But probably not that often.
I would use this power only for good.
Schumer would be a particularly frequent recipient.
For Cryin’ Chuck I would try to bend it like that Spice Guy
