Largely ignored in today’s immigration debate is the fact that sanctuary policies conflict with the United Nations’ Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (VCCR) of 1963, as well as other relevant bilateral treaties.

If local law enforcement continues to embrace sanctuary policies that violate the VCCR, it could cause a game of brinksmanship with other nations who would also refuse to honor the treaty as retaliation. The result would be that a U.S. citizen arrested in another country would have no way to contact the local American embassy for assistance and could instead languish in a foreign jail for an extended period.  MORE HERE

  1. In other words, sanctuary cities are not only violating federal law they are violating international treaties.

    Perhaps those individuals who are abusing their positions should be tried for violating human rights.

  2. Maybe now that someone has pointed out that sanctuary cities are a violation of international law the leftists will want to end the concept of sanctuary. They don’t care about U.S. law but bow down at the thought of international law.

    That does remind me of a case a few years ago where a Canadian was given the death penalty but was never in contact with the Canadian Embassy because he never disclosed that he was Canadian. There was a big international stink over that one.
