Hundreds of Thousands of Hires at Walmart, Amazon, CVS, Dollar General

Breitbart:

While massive layoffs are tearing through the economy, at least some businesses are seeing a surge in demand as Americans stock-up on goods for the pandemic lockdown. That means they are going to be hiring more workers to meet that demand.

Dollar General said Monday that it plans to hire up to 50,000 workers by the end of April as customers continue to head to its stores to stock up on household supplies. Dollar General said it anticipates a majority of the new jobs will be temporary, but that some may be long term.

CVS Health also announced Monday that it is looking to fill 50,000 full-time, part-time and temporary roles across the country. Positions include store associates, prescription delivery drivers, distribution center employees and member/customer service professionals. more

  1. It has become obvious that we cannot handle elections in this crisis. It would be just like killing people. Trump is going to have to call the election off, and be a man and take one for the team, and serve another four years.
We’ll get through this crisis, but we can’t let democrats in their greed for power push elections that are sure to kill many people.

  2. I just wanted to share a personal pro tip with everyone during this Coronavirus crisis.

The Media claimed that all you needed to go grocery shopping was a face mask and gloves.

    They lied.

    Other people were wearing clothes.

  3. There are always winners in any market. These dire we will be in a Great Depression, unemployment is gong to be 30%+ and so on is scaring the hell out of people and ignores the reality that not only these companies are hiring but many manufacturing companies that are now run-in 24/7 for repurposed production of needed supplies. And get us back to reality at the end of next week and we will work through this. Travel is going to take the most time since people are going to have to feel comfortable they aren’t going to get stranded which happened to a lot of people the last 10 days.

  4. Iā€™m predicting by mid summer our economy will be smoking like never before. China has disqualified themselves as a legit component to any supply chain. The Semi Conductor Capital Equipment guys have already moved most of that supply chain back to the Silicon Valley.

  5. Yep, every business seems to be non-essential except for the very few.

I don’t know call me crazy, but if I was really concerned about stopping the spread of a contagious disease then I wouldn’t allow stores like Dollar General, most are pretty small to have people cramming inside day in and day out. Not to mention delivery day, I went to see for myself after being told of the craziness of people waiting for the toilet paper to be unloaded. People lined up circling the store and even more in the parking lot grabbing that toilet paper straight off the pallet. It never made it into the store. Don’t get me wrong living in a rural area I like Dollar General, they made it more convenient to make a quick trip to the store.

I wouldn’t allow WalMart with their 70%+ merchandise from China to remain open, with even our small town having 350+ every morning lined up waiting for the doors to open. Then they about run each over to run and grab and throw shit in their baskets, pretty much on top of each other. I have a great nephew who works at WalMart who sent me a video of the new typical morning at WalMart. BTW, they have pickup, why not make them use it?

Our pharmacies all have drive-thru service, so again if I didn’t want to spread a contagious disease I would have them do drive-thru only.

That in a nutshell is one of the main reasons I do not and will not buy the bs it’s all to flatten the curve.

I can read and do math and can follow the daily numbers of the Coronavirus and the weekly numbers of the flu, not only for the country, but my own state. Flu is still causing more hospitalizations, in my state almost 10 times more hospitalizations than the virus, greater percentage testing positive for the flu than the virus and death rates are very comparable, some states more deaths from flu and other states almost even number.

  6. We may be in an essential job position since we found out that selling and distribution of flowers is considered to be agriculture and may allow us to continue to work. We’ll see, as of right now since I was temporarily laid off for at least a couple of week starting tomorrow in Wash. state. And mostly because we might be allowed to do business in Idaho and Montana but not Wash. Fortunately for me I have enough resources available to get thru this and will use this next 2 weeks to heal my swollen left foot with an edema and can stay off my feet as much as possible. It’s going be an interesting couple of weeks like nothing we’ve never experienced before in our lifetimes. I can do a lot of reading and thinking and get a lot of things done around my house that I normally wouldn’t have time for and a lot of checking on family and friends and people at IOTW to see how we’re all doing, so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. I’ve got a small Catholic church across the street where I may be able to help the priest even though I’m not Catholic and have a small Vietnamese congregation as well on the opposite side of the street that I’d like to help with as well . And keep on singing the Psalm of “He gave me beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness and a spriit of thanksgiving that God may be glorified.” This to shall all pass and it will be a hard but very good couple of weeks to focus on helping others and forgetting about my own problems.
