If they were insured, it would be interesting to know how. Like, had they been individually appraised and premiums paid based on those appraisals? If so, the company probably will have to pay out. BUT: If works in progress or in storage in his studio were insured as part of the “contents” of the building, the insurance adjuster would probably require proof of current market value, either from galleries with shows scheduled or from recent sales in the secondary market. Since there aren’t any, the insurance won’t pay and that right there is proof that the only value to Hunter’s “art” was that it offered access to political power.
