Hurricane Harvey: Widespread Evacuations Ordered in Texas

WC: Widespread evacuations have been ordered along Texas’ Gulf Coast ahead of Hurricane Harvey.

Officials in Calhoun, Victoria, Jackson, San Patricio and Refugio counties north of Corpus Christi issued orders on Thursday, along with the cities of Portland, Rockport, Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Ingleside and Robstown. All residents of Brazoria County living on the Gulf side of the Intracoastal Canal have been ordered to evacuate, as well.

Harvey became a hurricane around 1 p.m. Eastern Thursday and is still gaining strength as it churns through the Gulf of Mexico. Harvey is forecast to make landfall as a major Category 3 hurricane sometime early Saturday morning. The last storm of that category to hit the U.S. was Hurricane Wilma in October 2005 in Florida.

The Texas Department of Transportation has released an evacuation guide with highlighted routes and important tips.

Nueces County and the City of Corpus Christi have also issued a mandatory evacuation for high profile vehicles, KZTV reports, but no full evacuation has been ordered yet.  MORE

  1. Tony, you are soo right, they are chomping at the bit for a big FAIL. And it helps them to sweep Obama a bit further under the carpet after his disaster management debacles and give-a-shit-less attitude.

  2. I PROPOSE THAT ALL HURRICANES BE NAMED AFTER ANNOYING LIBERALS BUT THAT THEY USE LAST NAMES!!

“HARVEY” IS A GOOD START BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE USED “MILK”

    NEXT SUGGESTIONS:

    “OBAMA”
    “SCHUMER”
    “PELOSI”
    “CLINTON”
    “MCCAIN”
    “O’DONNELL”
    “MOORE”
    “MADDOW”
    “LEMON”
    “COOPER”
    ETC.!!!!!!

  3. Unlike Louisiana, Texas has a handle on things.
They’ve been filling up the Alamodome and other SA shelters with evacuees since yesterday.
We have had reservations to stay down at the coast for weeks; sure glad we didn’t head down there earlier, or we’d be evacuating right back north with the rest of them.

  4. I would like to be the first to blame Trump for his terrible reaction to hurricane Harvey.
If he flies over in a helicopter he will be condemned for not landing.
If he lands he will be condemned for using up resources.

  5. Wake me when it’s over.

The MSM and the Weather Channel could hype a popcorn fart for a week.

One ‘reporter’ said the ground was already saturated and every thing in Houston green.

I have a buddy there that says water sources are drying up and stuff is brown.

Reply; “You want to know why we don’t believe your climate ‘science’ bullshit? This is why. The fact that you can ‘predict’ a hurricane that can be photographed right now from space, doesn’t mean we cede to you the ability to predict the weather in 100 years. That you claim otherwise makes you a charlatan.

News flash: most of your predictions have turned out to be garbage. What ever happened to the hype after Katrina that this was the start of a new wave of increasing hurricanes? Yet we’ve had the quietest dozen years ever. Ignoring that you are wrong 10 times then bragging that you are right once… yeah, that’s not science. That’s propaganda. “

  7. Almost forgot. A friend three or four times removed who is obviously unhinged anti-Trump, went on a mini-tirade a while ago because Trump hadn’t appointed a FEMA admin yet. “I hope you’re ready Southern red states. Your Cheeto-n-Chief has left you on your own for hurricane season; with no one to run NOAA and hence the NHC, and no one to run FEMA. May the odds forever be in your favor.”

No one to run NOAA or FEMA. We’re all gonna die!

  8. This should be a perfect example of why you don’t want to rely on your Federal government for anything. The left is hoping for a double win, Trump failure and Texans they believe are all conservative to suffer. I do recall the last flooding to hit LA, Obama was vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard and stayed put to play golf with other resident celebs and Hillary promised to visit but never did. Trump showed up. .

  9. Four PM. Just got off the phone with my son who has evacuated 20 miles inland from Aransas pass to a safe house in Taft.. Expecting landfall just north of Rockport with sustained winds of 125 and gusts to 150. tidal surge expected around ten feet. AP, Rockport and Ingleside have about 3-5 feet of elevation. gonna get wet down there. Will get updates thru the night.
Here in Houston weather bugs are saying 30″ of rain in the next five days. I live next to the Addicks reservoir. I’m screwed.
