  7. TRF, I would say that as a species, we are predisposed to mental illness. And our population is now so large and means of communication so pervasive that the majority of productive people are finally realizing it.

    But a large percentage of people have always been… fucked up. Used to be they didn’t live long.

  11. Just an illustration of how desperately people are searching for joy and fulfillment in life. Couple that with the need for attention, and others only too willing to exploit others and this is what passes for news in these times.

    Father Robert Spitzer S.J. Produced an outstanding series on the four levels of happiness that I revisit on occasion. The progressive movement has made a career of telling people to go looking for joy and fulfillment where they are time and again going to come up empty. Unfortunately their message resonates with all too many people.

    The simple fact that so many people are going completely off the rails tells me that it isnā€™t that they have not been looking, itā€™s that they have been looking in all the wrong places and coming up empty. Then instead of narrowing their search and giving fair consideration to where the wisdom of the ages makes perfectly clear they are most likely (by a wide margin) to find happiness, they cast their net even wider.

    Can they possibly believe that they are going to be the one to prove God wrong? Thatā€™s my best guess regarding their motivation. Hell, I donā€™t know. I do know that there is an element of arrogance driving them.

    To be honest, I have gotten to the point that I am indifferent to their suffering that results from what they have saddled themselves with.

    I am a kind and empathetic soul, however I ,too, am immune to their suffering becauseI realized that the constant outrage and angst is the state in which they want to be.

  28. It was a rags-to-riches marriage but now I see a divorce in their future. He’s always ragging on her for spending too much time with the little rag-a-muffin baby. Rumor has it he is ready to throw in the towel. He recently started an office affair with his secretary. Her name is Terry Cloth. Her nick name around the office is “The Quicker Picker Upper”.
