If Obama Acts Alone on Immigration, House Judiciary Chairman Vows Court Challenge

Minority Report

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee says Congress should “go to court very quickly” to stop President Obama if he decides to act alone on immigration by deferring deportations and offering work permits to millions of people in the U.S. illegally.

“If the president were to take further action, I believe it would be very important for Congress to undertake a challenge to that,” said Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, at a Heritage Foundation event about Obama’s use of executive action.

  1. My synopsis of Obama’s speech to the Hispanic Caucus the other day, after boasting about being accompanied to the event by 2 illegals –

“I stand with you against America and the Rule of Law.”

  2. What is this “should” and “I believe” crap. It’s past time for definitive statements and a committed course of action to stop this administration. Let’s hear someone declare with no uncertainty that WE WILL STOP THIS CRIMINAL ACTION!

  3. joe6pak, you took the words right off my keyboard.

While reading this, I was thinking “I would hope” and “We should challenge” were his way of stating that he has no confidence that Boehner will do anything – just as he hasn’t done anything up to now. Oh, except that silly little lawsuit that will go nowhere and do nothing.

  4. BigGun got it right. The President has NO authority with respect to immigration. The Constitution gives that authority exclusively to Congress.

Any action soley by the president is impeachable.
