Illinois facing ‘severe cash shortage’

ChicagoSunTimes– Facing a “severe cash shortage,” Illinois is unable to pay social service agencies what they’re owed by the state — despite a recent court order compelling it to do so.

Illinois Comptroller Leslie Munger’s office, which is charged with paying the state’s bills, said Monday that it could not find the funds to immediately comply with a federal judge’s order that the state make payments to more than 10,000 residents with developmental disabilities.

“The cash flow right now is very low,” spokesman Rich Carter told the Chicago Sun-Times. “We just don’t have the money. We’re extremely concerned about that.” more

  1. In 2014 the people of Illinois elected Republican Bruce Rauner.
He’s been trying to fix the state’s problems, but he has a democrat majority state congress fighting against him, not to mention the anti-union measures he’s proposed have been overturned by the liberal state supreme courts.
Give him credit for at least trying.
Illinois is a red state, held hostage on election day by Cook county and Chicago.

  2. Springfield and Crook County are out of cash. The rest of the state is fine. My life has improved 10 fold since I stepped out of Crook county 14 years ago and haven’t been back since.

  3. I guessing NOW would be a good time to shut off the spigot to all those dumbed-down, celebrity-obsessed, Food-Stamp wielding, Escalade driving, Kool-Aid drinking, government-dependent, entitlement rich, busted-ass, uninformed, short attention span, Obamaphone-carrying, worthless, free-loading door-knobs that can’t process a sound bite over 10 seconds in length that doesn’t rhyme!

  4. Some worthless federal judge sitting on his huge black robed ass
on his royal ‘pain in the ass’ throne issued a Magnus Directus mandating that lowly and downtrodden taxpayers pony up money they don’t have. With the vast power, both assumed and granted, residing in a federal judge why doesn’t he just order an official dictate for money to appear out of thin air!

  5. I too stepped out of Crook County over twenty years ago, and whenever possible, I refuse to spend a nickle there.

I live in Lake County now. The air is so much better where you aren’t surrounded by the democraps!

  6. Way past time. But the time is coming soon, because unlike Washington, Illinois doesn’t have a printing press.

Rauner spiked their budget, and is now biding his time until he guano hits the fan. Then, we’ll finally see his phase two.

My suspicion is the Gimmedats are gonna hate phase two.

  7. Hey Judge, you stupid dolt, they have run out of other peoples (taxpayer) money. They spent it all on other federal court and government mandates and edicts! (we all might want to contemplate reducing the huge salaries and fringe benefits judges get and redirect 50-75% of that back to the government coffers to help pay for their many absurd directives)!

  8. Actually, it was a female judge. The mandate had to do with a court order issued 3 years ago for the state to supply ‘sufficient funds to maintain and develop adequate services’ for developmentally disabled residents. These programs aren’t seeking more money, just the money they were granted in the budget. The vast majority of the programs in question are severely underfunded at best, and now are getting nothing.

  9. Make corruption a capital offense.
    Enforce it.
Execute the corrupt, in public, naked.

    Do the next one. Repeat.

Eventually, they’ll quit stealing the taxpayer’s money.

Oh, do that “judge” first – no one is entitled to another’s labor.
