Illinois: Jeanne Ives Targets Illinois ‘Sanctuary State’ Law in Republican Primary

Breitbart: Illinois State Representative Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) has launched a biting new ad against incumbent Republican Bruce Rauner that brings the “sanctuary state” issue to the fore in the Republican primary.

In 2017, Rauner signed a law that essentially made Illinois a sanctuary state. Conservatives warned that it marked the “beginning of the end” of his administration.

Now, Rauner’s signature on that bill is coming back to haunt him.

Ives’s new TV ad focuses on the murder of Denny McCann, who was run down by an illegal alien in June of 2011.

The ad introduces the victim’s brother, Brian McCann, who recalls that Denny was run down by an illegal alien named Saul Chavez, who was driving drunk. Denny was dragged for nearly a city block and died a violent death, Brian says.

Unfortunately, Saul Chavez absconded back to Mexico and escaped punishment for murdering McCann. read more

  1. On social issues, Ives seems pretty conservative while Rauner has moved left. But let’s face it, Mike Madigan runs Illinois and he won’t do anything to jeopardize his relationships with the unions. At this point, the fiscal insanity combined with the social lunacy will continue to ruin Illinois, and it will take a Detroit style collapse of Chicago before anything can be turned around.

Retirees have been bailing out of Illinois for a long time, but the exodus of younger workers is the most worrying. I don’t see how Ives can return any sense of fiscal responsibility to Springfield, and it is the high tax rates and growing demand for tax money that is largely driving people away. Frankly, Illinois needs illegals to immigrate here, but even with that Illinois is losing net population and the illegal immigrants are not an adequate substitute for those leaving.
