Illinois: Sen. Kirk calls for GOP to ‘man up,’ vote on Merrick Garland

ChicagoSunTimes: Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., on Friday said his GOP colleagues should “man up and cast a vote” on Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland, further breaking from his GOP Senate leadership as the first Senate Republican to call for an up-or-down roll call.

Kirk’s position is not surprising since he already has said, in an op-ed published in the Chicago Sun-Times on Feb. 22, that President Barack Obama has a right to send a nominee to the Senate and that person should get a hearing.  MORE

  1. yeah, since when is the party of welfare and redistribution suddenly the party of “do your job”?

The elections over, they won. They’re doing the job (hopefully) that we sent them there for.

  2. Mark Kirk was an insufferable liberal/progressive republican before his stroke caused the brain damage we see now.

Kirk is an appropriate representation of Illinois where corruption, graft and democratic control is self inflicted incurable disease.

  3. Kirk is up for reelection this fall and he’s showing his true REgressive colors. Fuck him. You can bet your butt that McConnell OKed this bullshit 100% before Kirk opened his soup coolers

“…breaking from his GOP Senate leadership…” My ass.

  4. If the current 0bama SOCTUS pick gets shot down, I bet he’ll nominate a minority woman, which will be virtually unstoppable nomination even if it’s a slack-jawed idiot like Sheila Jackson-Lee. That said, I won’t be counting on courage or integrity from any politician of any party.

  5. Just do nothing …
it’s what GOP does best …

No Hearing … No Vote … No Nothing …
tell Obola to Eat Shit and Die …

    or just say nothing.

Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.

  6. He’s urging them to “man up” by bending over to take a FATAL wound up the ass ?!

If republicans want to follow this pie-piper they’ll deserve their stroll into the abyss.
