I’m A Conservative, And I Went To An Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Rally

DC: On Saturday evening, Democratic congressional candidate Cori Bush held a rally in celebration of her birthday. Bush, who is running in the Aug. 7 primary against seven-term incumbent William “Lacy” Clay Jr. in Missouri’s First Congressional District (St. Louis), brought in some star power for the event: Democratic socialist and Bronx native Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Over the years, I have attended my share of political events: tea party protests, a Rick Perry speech on tax cuts, a Ted Cruz rally, and even a speech given by President Donald Trump earlier this year. But nothing prepared me for the stark difference in tone.

Bush’s rally packed a few hundred friends and activists into a bar called the Ready Room in St. Louis, and almost from the moment I walked through the door, I was surrounded by a group of women who were discussing over drinks the reasons they had gotten involved in politics — the two things they all had in common were anger and fear. One even said, “I just couldn’t stand being angry and afraid all the time.”

As the rally kicked off, a series of invited guests took the stage, each sharing the reasons that they supported Bush. Several mentioned the Ferguson protests — which began after police officer Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown on Aug. 9, 2014 — and recalled being tear-gassed and arrested alongside Bush.

Others invoked the “Israeli occupation of Palestine” while still others told stories of “woke” grandchildren who asked over pancakes whether ICE was going to come and arrest them.

One even praised the strength and dedication of convicted cop-killer Assata Shakur — while Ocasio-Cortez (who was waiting in the wings) and Bush nodded along.

But then Ocasio-Cortez spoke, followed by Bush, and I saw something truly terrifying

  1. And any lefty commentator, like Jessica Tarloff, is saying their running local candidates that fit individual districts.

Right, they’ll all goosestep to Pelosi if they get to DC.

We gotta get off our asses and vote.

  2. When a politician promises me something, I ask two questions: (1) what is this going to cost monetarily and socially, and (2) what methods will the government use to implement their promises. Realistic answers to those questions usually reveal that the cost of giving me things is way too expensive for me.

Take wealth distribution. I know that I will never have Bill Gates or Warren Buffet money, but I wanted the opportunity to try. Socialist wealth distribution schemes are expensive in terms of dollars because the government has to create a bureaucracy to implement it, create a police force to enforce it, and create a punitive system for violators. The social cost is even higher; citizens will never be able to get rich, the wealthy not be induced to create wealth, and risk taking will be curtailed because there is little opportunity for reward. The government decides who “at some point has made enough money,” and who will receive the windfalls. And, as always happens, those in government will benefit the most.

Life can be far too interesting for me to just get a job flipping burgers and wait for the government to supplement my income from those who make more. There would be no incentive to learn things, or try new things, or even switch careers to better myself. Life’s journey would just be an existence of flipping burgers and then going home to watch television – you may as well just be a farm animal.

From a historical perspective, socialists have turned out to be greedy morons and idiots. Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez, and other socialists are either too stupid to realize that socialism has never worked, or are truly evil and willing to sacrifice the freedom and well-being of their fellow citizens for their own personal gain. They should, again, be relegated to the scrap heap of history.

  3. @ Wyatt: I’m betting that the primary touters of the con are evil. While some of the pols – like Obama and perhaps their current l’il darlin’- might be dumb enough to believe the con, the ones behind it are not. They are dangerous enemies, I believe.

  4. I’m sorry, I don’t know the person who wrote that, and I don’t mean to offend anybody, but if you’re a conservative and, for one minute, you fell for that garbage, you need to strengthen your roots. It’s the same snake oil they’ve been selling for years.

  5. This is why the 19th Amendment needs to be repealed. (Along with the 16th, 17th, and section 1 of the 14th.)

Sorry ladies, but far too few of you use logic and reason when selecting a candidate. The article demonstrate how easily women (and beta males for that matter) are manipulated by emotion into making illogical, even moronic decisions.
