WASHINGTON, Dec. 4, 2018 – JBS Tolleson, Inc., a Tolleson, Ariz. establishment, is recalling approximately 12,093,271 pounds of non-intact raw beef products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Newport, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 267” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to a retail locations and institutions nationwide.

AfterFSIS Recall 085-2018 on October 4, 2018, FSIS, CDC, and state public health and agriculture partners continued to investigate the outbreak of Salmonella Newport illnesses. The epidemiological investigation has identified 246 confirmed case-patients from 26 states with illness onset dates ranging from July 26 to September 7, 2018. An additional 16 case-patients have provided receipts or shopper card numbers for the product traceback investigations. Specific traceback for three case-patients have identified JBS Tolleson, Inc., EST. 267 ground beef products that were not part of the October 4, 2018 recall. FSIS will continue to work with public health partners and provide updated information should it become available.

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. The most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated product. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment. In some persons, however, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact their health care provider.  MORE

  1. At some point you have to question if this beef is accidentally contaminated.
Knowing the frequency of this problem with the staggering costs it seems there would be a stepped up effort to to take measures against this happening.

…I work in a food plant, @gin blossom. It’s full of Muslims. We didn’t have ANY before 9/11/01. So yes, you DO have to wonder.

…but don’t wonder to Management, they’re scared to DEATH of them…

  3. ..it’s also possible the contamination IS from Muslims, but NOT intentional.

A habit they brought with them from several Old Countries is that the Koran says “Thou Shalt Clean Thy PeePee After Use”. Something about urine in your clothes. Not a terrible sentiment, but the method they seem to use the MOST is to use the urinal water for this purpose, I think after the flush, but it’s kind of immaterial because the urinal isn’t really “clean” even after. Gross, but still not terrible.

The TERRIBLE part is that SOME of them consider this to be their hand-washing, too. And then off they go to the Packaging line to handle YOUR food packages…

…also, bear in mind that many, many Muslims will NOT take antibiotics OR get vaccines because some of the ingredients MIGHT not be halal (pig’s hooves for gelatin, for example), AND they don’t have great sex habits OR limit themselves to a single partner (Men Only, some have up to 4 “wives” ’cause Mohammad sez it’s OK). This also explains why some of them leave blood drops in the bathroom, due to untreated social diseases.

And, not only is MANAGEMENT afraid of the whole “Racism” thing (not a race, but that’s another subject), so is USDA-AVI-FDA-MPI, so ain’t NO ONE interested in even HEARING about it, let alone DOING anything about it.

…so, enjoy that next trip to the grocery store, folks. Bring Handi-Wipes…

  4. I am so glad to be able to buy beef from a friend and have it custom butchered. I wouldn’t eat any ground beef from a major food chain.

Remember how all the small towns used to have a butcher and the FDA essentially shut them down by requiring meat inspectors in them all. You know because the local butcher wants to kill all his customers…..

  5. @Different Tim: I have never bought beef in a tube. For all you know it could be gray or green inside there. If I can’t see what the stuff looks like, I’m not taking any chances.

P.S. – I’ve always wondered something: If contaminated beef can contain Salmonella, can contaminated salmon contain Beefella?

    😉

Reminds me of the time I was shopping for a new car. I wouldn’t buy a Mercury; it was contaminated with tuna.
