Janice Rogers Brown will step down from the United States Court of Appeals for DC – IOTW Report

Janice Rogers Brown will step down from the United States Court of Appeals for DC

Powerline:

Janice Rogers Brown has notified officials that she will step down from the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Judge Brown, age 68, has served on that Court since 2005.

The Wall Street Journal story says, in its headline, that Judge Brown’s retirement will give President Trump the opportunity to appoint a conservative to this powerful court. He’ll be hard-pressed, however, to appoint a more solid conservative than Janice Rogers Brown.

The good news is that Trump will be able to appoint a much younger one — a conservative who, with luck, will hold down the seat for two decades or more.  more

  1. The name sounds familiar. Let me guess …. a liberal activist who wants to implement legislation from the judicial branch.

    “By any means necessary.”

    These people make me puke

  2. He’ll be hard-pressed, however, to appoint a more SOLID CONSERVATIVE than Janice Rogers Brown.
Thought I’d emphasize that for those who don’t actually read the stories.

  3. Federal Appeals Judges just do not retire voluntarily at 68.

Like Chaffetz, I expect she’s being presssured out. I expect Mr. Trump has a good grasp of how to “persuade” unwanted officials to vacate their posts.
Trump is going to be replacing a lot of Clinton/Obama appointees.
    MAGA.

  4. Wow! What part of, “He’ll be hard-pressed, however, to appoint a more solid conservative than Janice Rogers Brown.”, did naysayer commenter miss?

Going into “senior service” would be ideal. I hope her health is ok.

  5. Come on now, half of you jumped to the wrong conclusion. You are acting like dumb libs. Read the story before you comment.

p.s. She has a lovely face and thoughtful eyes.

  6. Wow–don’t mean to sound like a scold, but staff always posts links to articles for us for a reason.

Sounds like Janice Rogers Brown would have been a great addition to the SCOTUS.

  7. The linked article doesn’t give her reasons for stepping down.
    I don’t know her.
Many of us no longer trust the current Leftist WSJ to define a “conservative ” anything.

It takes decades to become a Federal Appeals Court judge. That’s a life ambition.

They do not usually step down at 68.

  8. Went to various sites to review her judgements over the years and you would be hard pressed to find a more sensible and conservative jurist. Wish she had been SCOTUS instead of Roberts.

  9. Then if you don’t believe what someone posts here and don’t believe the WSJ–you do what Old Redneck did and research it yourself before you jump to conclusions. She certainly was extremely conservative. I pray that all is well in her life and she is retiring to enjoy the rest of it.

  10. Judge Brown made a lot good decisions esp wrt Guantanamo detainees. One almost didn’t expect that from a DC court.

Kudos that she waited for a Repub president before retiring. Now a like minded judge can replace her.

  11. A bit disappointed at the commenters here this evening.

I don’t know, but some of you saw her picture, and began with what I consider nasty (if not racist/sexist) remarks. Thought we here at iotwReport were better people than that.

  12. I remember when she was nominated. (How is it that there are so many here that don’t?) Super solid conservative. Dems were put in a real pickle. If she’d been white, they likely would not have confirmed.
God bless her. Wish her the very best 😘
