Jersey Cops Arrest Black Gun Owner Over Licensed Gun, Legal Ammo

WFB-A New Jersey gun owner is fighting charges for carrying a firearm for which he had a permit and ammunition state police have publicly said is legal.

Roosevelt Twyne, a 25-year-old African-American security guard, was arrested by Roselle Park Police in February after a traffic stop stemming from tinted windows on his car. Evan Nappen, Twyne’s attorney, told the Washington Free Beacon that his client was then erroneously charged for illegally carrying a firearm and being in possession of so-called hollow point ammunition.

“He was arrested for the hollow point ammunition,” Nappen told the Free Beacon. “Then they claimed he was transporting his handgun illegally. He had a permit to carry a handgun. The law … makes it clear that it’s illegal to transport unless you are licensed pursuant to chapter 58. And that is precisely what a handgun carry permit is.” read more

  1. Like most, if not all gun control laws, they are passed by idiots who know nothing about guns or ammunition. There is no legitimate reason to ban “hollow point ammunition “, but there are public safety reasons to use it.

  2. Get arrested and charged with something, even if that something is not illegal or breaking any law, and you end up with both an arrest record (that works against you for many years at best) and heavy legal expenses to hire a lawyer and have him explain to the court or to a jury that you are not guilty because it wasn’t illegal. Even then, you might ended up convicted for something in a plea bargain just to get the DA to let you out of it ad dismiss the charges. (It all depends on how much justice you can afford)

For many of us on the lower end of things this means losing a good part or all of your life savings or going deeply in debt or both and having your life destroyed by it. The alternative is going to jail and having a conviction for a serious crime on your record for the rest of your life.

So what you gonna do? The truth is you really can’t do anything about it, that’s just the way it is.

  3. As a conservative white man I don’t care what color
any Citizen is when he is being illegally persecuted
for legally utilizing firearms under the protections
    of the 2nd Ammendment.
NJ is a State to be avoided and excoriated for its
tyrannical and criminal activities against its own
    people.

  4. As more and more anti-second amendment laws get passed, it becomes impossible for the average cop, let alone a citizen, to keep track of all of them. This is by design, as it makes law-abiding citizens unsuspecting felons. Cops arrest anyone with a gun just incase they “might” be violating the law. This madness has to stop. Unfortunately, even Justice Scalia left the door open in the Heller decision, when he said States and local jurisdictions may pass “reasonable restrictions” on gun rights, without defining “reasonable”.

  6. ‘Tinted windows’ was the reason he was initially pulled over-

    I just-

    -ARE YOU SERIOUS???
Sounds to me like he was pulled over because he was black. >_>

  7. his ammo was NOT so-called hollow-point bullets. They were Hornady Critical Defense ammo. They are NOT hollow-point – even NJ’s own State Police website says so!!

As soon as the cops got him back to the Cop Shop and realized their mistake, they should have immediately uncuffed him, apologized profusely to him, bitched about the politicians’ laws being ambiguous, tore up the charges and released him. But they didn’t – that’s how fucked up NJ has become. I’m glad I abandoned that shitshow 22 yrs ago.
