I guess it goes at least as far back as the Roman soldiers’ rape of the Sabine women. The Sabines were just another Italian tribe the Romans vanquished. The Roman soldiers raped the women and carried them back to Rome as trophies.

…rape is ALWAYS about power, not about sex. It degrades and humiliates a person, a tribe, a race if they cant even defend their woman from violation in the most intimate and personal way, and as a tool of war also makes it so the women of the enemy have to bear the children of the conqueror. Islam in particilar promotes that as the children of a Muslim are considered Muslim regardless of consent, but is in no way limited to that.
On an individual level, the rapist gets his thrill in utterly dominating his victim, forcing them to his will, breaking them in body and spirit. This is why so many elderly rapist prefer pedophelia, children are simply easier to dominate.
Never mistake rape as a sex act. Sex is the weapon, not the prize.
