JSW Steel Announces New $500 Million Investment in Ohio

CTH:

JSW Steel has announced an agreement to purchase Acero Junction facility in Mingo Junction, Ohio. Thanks specifically to the Trump administration economic plan, it is investing upwards of $500 million in the old Ohio steel plant that was built in 1929, instead of constructing a new facility in India.

The project is expected to generate an estimated 300 permanent jobs in a town of just 3,400 people.  “We are going to revitalize that facility and that entire community,” CEO John Hritz said. more

  1. @HungJumper — and JSW is putting another $500 million into a facility in Texas, too! As I type.

Also, the video of that reporting states that there are 20K requests for tariff exemptions on steel and aluminum, but only about half of those will be exempted because price is not considered a hardship. I can’t believe that U.S. companies would want to gut the efficacy of tariffs to stop China from undercutting our long-term economic recovery and longer-term industrial/manufacturing growth and the living wage jobs they bring. As soon as these steel and aluminum plants come online, their prices should be comparable or even less expensive than Chinese products — and infinitely more trustworthy. The spokesman for JWS said the Ohio plant would start producing as early as September this year.
