DML: A Muslim man has stated he wants to plead guilty and accept the death penalty for beheading a woman he worked with in Oklahoma – but a judge has ruled the man is “not competent” to enter the guilty plea.
In September 2014, Alton Nolen, also known as Jah’Keem Yisrael, attacked and beheaded his co-worker, Colleen Hufford, at Vaughan Foods in Moore, Oklahoma. He also attacked two other co-workers, but they escaped him.
From the beginning, Nolen has admitted guilt and requested the death penalty. He has already undergone “competency testing” from psychologists provided by both the state and the defense team – but the two sides can’t agree, so now the judge is sending him to a mental hospital in Vinita, Oklahoma for further evaluation.
After all, “a man’s life does hang in the balance,” says District Attorney Greg Mashburn.
Colleen Hufford’s daughter, Kelli Hufford, called the judge’s decision inexcusable. MORE
