Judge Wapner of ‘People’s Court’ dead at 97

Feb. 26 (UPI) — Retired judge and beloved, television personality Joseph A. Wapner has died at his home in Los Angeles. He was 97.

Gabriel Wapner, the judge’s grandson, confirmed the death to The Washington Post Sunday.

The elder Wapner presided over the syndicated series The People’s Court 1981-93.

TMZ reported the judge was hospitalized last week with breathing problems. His condition worsened and he returned home Friday under hospice care, dying Sunday morning.

He is survived by Mickey, his wife of 70 years.  They are the parents of three children.

  2. My wife and I were on that show back in 83. I’ll just say we lost the case, but the scumbag we were suing went out of business shortly thereafter and never recovered from the bad publicity. So it was a lose win as far as we were concerned. We didn’t lose much money, it was just the principle of the guys BS business shenanigans that sent us in that direction. The judge was on his game and saw right through the guy, but had to rule in his favor due to lack of evidence on our part. Let me just say, keep good records of transactions and what is said when and you will win in any court even the peoples court.
