Kansas: Mystery illness spreads through Manhattan schools

MANHATTAN, Kan., (KSNT)  –  A mysterious outbreak that’s plagued Manhattan High School for two weeks has now expanded to the elementary and middle schools in the district, the superintendent said Friday. A district wide plan to clean all schools and buses in the district is underway.

State and local health officials have been unable to determine the cause of the sickness, which has sent about 150 high school students home from school with stomach issues, including nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Superintendent Marvin Wade calls the issue unusual and says “an unusually large number of students” are impacted.  MORE

Same stuff that makes so many folks sick on cruise ships? Profile rag heads.

That would be noro virus. It’s when people don’t wash their hands after taking a crap and then go wherever and touch whatever and you go behind them touching the same thing. I’ve been on cruise ships when noro breaks out. You’re not allowed to touch anything that other people have touched. Salt and pepper shakers disappear from tables, you are handed everything by a crew member. Crew members are not allowed to shake your hand. You are quarantined to your cabin for at least days with a security guard sitting in a chair right next to your cabin door. If you are caught outside of your cabin, you are put off at the next port. I’ve never had it because I don’t put my fingers near my face. But been on ships where 1/2 the passengers were hugging the toilet.

Nope, rag heads don’t go on cruises, it’s against their religion. Gambling, drinking, smoking and wild sex on board. However noro is blamed on the Asians.

  3. P.S. again. Noro may be caught on a ship, but it’s brought on board by someone already infected then spreads it to others. All noro virus on a ship must be reported to the CDC. The health department inspects the ships that have reported noro on board and a thorough cleaning must be done. It doesn’t stop people from bringing it on board. Noro is well known in rest homes and preschools where fecal matter around is normal.

  4. Back in the day if you were sick you were not allowed in.
Ellis Island, in Upper New York Bay, was the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the United States as the nation’s busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 until 1954

Generally, those immigrants who were approved spent from two to five hours at Ellis Island. Arrivals were asked 29 questions including name, occupation, and the amount of money carried. It was important to the American government that the new arrivals could support themselves and have money to get started. The average the government wanted the immigrants to have was between 18 and 25 dollars ($600 in 2015 adjusted for inflation). Those with visible health problems or diseases were sent home or held in the island’s hospital facilities for long periods of time. More than three thousand would-be immigrants died on Ellis Island while being held in the hospital facilities. Some unskilled workers were rejected because they were considered “likely to become a public charge.” About 2 percent were denied admission to the U.S. and sent back to their countries of origin for reasons such as having a chronic contagious disease, criminal background, or insanity.[37] Ellis Island was sometimes known as “The Island of Tears” or “Heartbreak Island”[38] because of those 2% who were not admitted after the long transatlantic voyage. The Kissing Post is a wooden column outside the Registry Room, where new arrivals were greeted by their relatives and friends, typically with tears, hugs and kisses
