L.A. Pays Homeless $645,000 to Settle Skid Row Property Rights Case

The city of Los Angeles agrees to pay $645,000 to settle a lawsuit that claimed L.A. sanitation workers stole or destroyed property of homeless people during periodic clean-up efforts in the city’s sprawling Skid Row area. Do homeless people have a Constitutional right to squat on public property, stockpile pallets, refrigerators and other scavenged items, and generally drag down property values and tourist appeal?

  1. If a tax paying homeowner accumulated trash, appliances, clothing, shopping carts, etc. on their property, code enforcement would cite them until the property was cleaned up. Or, code enforcement would clean up the mess and send the property owner a bill that if left unpaid, would result in a property lien. Homeless have more rights than regular people.

  2. LA and other cities provide refrigerated truck trailers for storage of homeless grocery carts and other delectable items if one of them is taken to jail.

    I’m not making this up.

  3. The idiot leftist’s must view this as a blow struck for every crawling vermin and mite that until now has struggled through life without a sympathetic voice to speak out for them.
Now they’ll be free to pass along their microbes unmolested as they graze on the homeless.

  4. Where are they sending this $645,000 check to? Supposedly the homeless have no property, no bank accounts, etc… or is this a shell game ?
LA moving the $$$ from one government bucket to another ?

  5. @Loretta in Indiana, the check will go to the equivalent of the sleazy porn lawyer and then into a black hole with some coins dropping off to a few elected and bureaucratic officials.

  6. “The city of Los Angeles agrees to pay $645,000 …”

    Oh, really?

How ’bout: “The taxpayers of Los Angeles have $645,000 extorted from them by their own lawyers and officials …”

    Truth in Advertising?

  7. $645,000 judgement less $500,000 in legal fees equals about $3 bucks apiece afor each homeless person in LA. Only the lawyers win and the taxpayer gets screwed again.

  8. The bums migrate there from all parts of the country. Maybe I’m looking at it wrong and should send a couple bucks to help keep them there.
It’ll likely be the epicenter of the next plague to hit the country thanks to the filthy conditions so having them gathered there gives the rest of us a running start for a getaway.

  9. Good. Liberal voters, struggling to pay their taxes, deserve this. Something has to make them wise up and stop voting democrat. Keep voting for crazy, irresponsible judges, who attract bums from other cities. So, California democrats, keep doing what you’re doing. America thanks you.
