It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away.
We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries.A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief. – Leonard Cohen.com
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
I agree PJ.
My editorial comment is he always seemed to sing depressing songs. I got over him when I was about 16 or 17.
OTOH, I don’t do poetry.
Zonga, I don’t do poetry either. The meaning I get out of Hallelujah is that it is about love gone cold, mixed. in the beginning with David and Bathsheba. So much for my “interpretation” of lyrics. Probably quite laughable.
I love the music, but the words – meh. However, it’s probably helpful for people needing to grieve love lost.
Right, depressing.
Did he ever have a happy love song? Seriously.
My best friend and his girlfriend were into Leonard Cohen some time back in the 70s. I found him depressing only when he didn’t put me to sleep by the 2nd or 3rd song. My friends would put on his album when it was late and they wanted me to go home.
Even though I was not a fan, I’m sorry to hear of his passing. A lot of people appreciated his work.
Sorry, I like music to be a little up beat, seems like all Cohen’s stuff consists of funeral dirges.
Maybe it will get played.
I dedicate this song to Leonard Cohen… It’s very romantic, up beat, sweet, um well, except for the part when she stabs him….
Enjoy happy romance

@Zonga – Sweet song! I particularly liked the part where she joyously dumped the big can of black paint on his head.
I wasn’t a fan. I just figured he’s been around a long time and someone must have listened to him. 🙂
Mr. Cohen’s alleged music was always popular with overweight female college students who couldn’t get dates.
I found his lyrics to be sappy and depressing. His talent ranks right up their with Emo Philips in my book.
Rest in peace Leonard.
I just checked out his music and it sounds like he’s been doing that most of his life…
This makes me sad. The guy was brilliant.
“Forsaken, almost human, he sank beneath your wisdom like a stone.”
Rest in peace Mr. Cohen and thank you.
He was good wordsmith. Have many of his CDs. “Closing Time” is a peppy song for all that think
he’s too depressing. Love that song.
I know I’m going to get some flames… but I prefer Leonard Cohen’s style to Tom Waits. I could never get into Tom. He could hardly pronounce words and sounded like he was on heroin or something. Painful to listen to.
Not a huge fan either but I do like some of the covers of Hallelujah. My favorite is Closing time, depressingly upbeat.

A writing and singing talent, this I will miss.
Ah, the “little Jew who wrote the Bible.”
Farewell, Mr. Cohen. The pain is gone now. Thanks, you helped get me laid a couple times.

Live From London, Great album.
Ten New Songs, brilliant, with the song “Love Itself” I thought at the time to be perfect music; and “A thousand kisses deep”, inimitable. He was a great soul, and interestingly as a Cohen had descended from the Priests of Israel’s past.
Mr. Cohen shared himself with the world with all his warts, his family should open up and share him again with us in his death.

You have to pay to hear it but Larry Elder (LarryElder.com) gave a really inspiring tribute to Leonard Cohen during his radio show yesterday (Nov 11, 2016). I was converted.
