ABC7— Macy’s is cutting thousands of jobs after disappointing holiday sales.
The Cincinnati-based department store chain says sales fell 5.2 percent in November and December at existing stores. Warm weather and lower spending by international tourists hurt sales.
The company also listed Wednesday which 40 stores it would close. It had announced it was closing stores in September.
Macy’s said Wednesday that it now expects its profit for its fiscal fourth quarter and full year, which run through January, to fall short of its previous estimate. more
SNIP: They’re blaming global warming and tourists, not because of their penchant for jumping on the bandwagon of every politically leftist view and alienating their customers, their own mismanagement or Obama’s economy. And for that, their employees have to suffer.
LOL “Meltdown on 34th Street” 🙂 🙂 🙂
I suck at these mime ideas, but this is crying for BFH to do a Patrick Swazie Dirty Dancing thing with Trump being held in the air, Caption, Nobody Puts The Donald In The Back.
LOL
Oops, like it was necessary.
I can honestly say I deliberately did not shop at Macy’s this yea due
I did not shop at Macy’s this Christmas season after they chose to support illegal immigration and otherwise got political
Funny, you would think warm weather would encourage people to get out and enjoy it rather than hole up.
I never shopped at Macy’s but sometimes went with my friend. Last time she asked me I told her no and she shouldn’t go there also. Told her they let men in the women’s dressing rooms and bathrooms. She and I went somewhere else.
Same!
My wife stopped shopping at Makis. They probably lost $5,000 a year.
Yeah, “tourists”. That’s rich….. https://youtu.be/X1fcumVqvYs
Claudia dear that’s why I shop at Macy’s. ?
don’t cross teh donald
The days of dressing up to go “downtown” to shop are over. I’m so very glad that I at least had the experience of doing that. I worked for Frederick & Nelson in Seattle while I was in H.S. and it was a wonderful experience. That was back in the days when it was the premier store in Seattle and Marshall Field & Co. was considered the top of the heap (Macy’s was still a great N.Y. store). F&N had doormen who had worked there since the 1940’s and had everything in-house — bakery, creamery, candy shop, three restaurants, and every kind of thing imaginable. Nine floors of it! And the elevator girls there to push the buttons for you. The corner window at Christmastime was amazing. Heaven!
Shopping is now so bothersome, I hate it. If you’re lucky enough to find someone to wait on you (wait on you?), you’ll be even luckier to get a box for your purchase. Forget a bag — plastic bags are illegal in King Co. Ever pack your purchases around in a wet paper bag in Seattle’s winter weather? How stupid.
If Trump does only one thing for this country, as silly as it seems, it will be to bring back a modicum of dignity and decorum to our lives. Maybe it will even be fashionable again to dress up for an occasion, like, you know, going to the theater, out to dinner or even to go shopping.
Same here. Called and cancelled my credit card when they went political.
Wasn’t it Macy’s Santa himself who sent shoppers over to Gimbels?
do macy’s layoffs play into isis hands for recruiting purposes like proposing suspension of muslim immigration does?
have not shopped their since they supported Illegal Aliens…..have to wonder why a high end overpriced store would pander to an entire culture built on public assistance, welfare, EBT cards and handouts? Kind of missed that one there MACY’s!
So, no parade?
Abigail – – Yes, Westlake Center during Christmas was magical despite all the liberals.
Hipsters are walking around in their $150/pair skinny jeans, “Yea, but I look good.” GOOFS, all of them are GOOTS!
Forty stores is only 5% of their total number.
Not to worry, the NYC store will be the -last- store to close. 😉
B-b-b-b-but it says here that the Obama Economy has made a roaring comback!
Chaucun a son gout.
