Democrats Are ‘Not a Socialist Party’, They Assert

WFB: Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) said Wednesday that the Democratic Party is “not a socialist party,” making her yet another Democrat pushing back against the party being defined by the rise of democratic socialism.

Speaking with CNBC’s John Harwood, Waters objected to the idea Democrats have embraced the mantle of socialism.

“I think that’s an exaggeration. The Democratic Party is not a socialist party,” Waters said. “And because we have some very—aggressive, smart people who would like to create some changes, who may represent the extreme end of our party—”

According to a transcript, Harwood pointed out two prominent democratic socialists in Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), who caucuses with Democrats, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the New York congressional candidate who upset Rep. Joe Crowley (D., N.Y.) in his primary last month.

“Yeah, but he votes for Democrats,” Waters said. “And I just don’t think that our party should be identified because we have a few people who seem to be to the left of the left.”  more here

SNIP: The jumpy, mega-toothed Miss Ocasio-Cortez seems to be working Rep. James Clyburn (D., S.C.)’s nerves lately:

Rep. James Clyburn (D., S.C.), the House assistant minority leader, said Wednesday that congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will need to wait her turn before she considers joining Democratic Party leadership.

“I would ask her to remember how long I had to wait to get here,” Clyburn said on Buzzfeed’s “AM to DM.”

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D., Mo.) isn’t happy, either:

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D., Mo.) on Tuesday dismissed the idea of the Democratic Party moving to the left and expressed his dissatisfaction with prominent left-wing politicians.

Fox Business host Neil Cavuto asked Cleaver what the future holds for the Democrats, and the congressman said he expects a divided government after the 2018 midterms. He then argued against Democrats following Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) and New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the self-proclaimed democratic socialist who stunned House leader Rep. Joe Crowley (D., N.Y.) in a June primary.

“I didn’t support Bernie Sanders for president. I supported someone else,” he said, referring to his support for Hillary Clinton. “I think in some ways the media has pushed the young woman who was victorious in the New York congressional race against Joe Crowley to the point that she has been made out as some kind of deity.”  MORE

Come on, man, say their names! I realize that “Ocasio-Cortez” is a hyphenated mouthful for a mumble-mouth, and you’re deeply ashamed of supporting Hillary, but you sound silly.

  2. Just because they want the government to control every aspect of the people’s lives, and just because they want to take all of the money that working people earn and give it back to people who don’t work, and just because they expect everyone to conform to their every thought and whim, how dare we deplorable folk think they are embracing socialism. They’re not, they are embracing communism.

waters does not live in the district that she represents.
Therefore, she can not vote for herself. She does not even represent herself- someone else does.
She is nothing more than a mercenary.

  6. One of these days enough people will have had enough of this very costly GARBAGE and it’ll be “clean up on aisle Seven”.

I’m really looking forward to that day.

  8. Socialists cannot (ever) get elected on their totalitarian/nihilism agenda, so they always lie.
That’s why when one of them (as Liz Warren accidentally did) speaks the truth (about, for instance, stealing 50% of income) we should encourage them.
A lying blowfish like Mad Max (and Emanuel Cleaver, for that matter) should be given free rein to babble their throats dry – eventually they’ll speak a fact.

That’s what that whole “Freedom of Speech” thing is about – even a pathological liar will sometimes let its guard down – much less a disingenuous politician.
