Maine Dem Claims Credit for GOP Tax Break

WFB: Democratic Senate candidate Sara Gideon is claiming credit for a Republican tax break her party opposed in her bid to oust Sen. Susan Collins (R., Maine).

In a new campaign ad, Gideon, the speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, touted her sponsorship of a property tax relief bill that will pay $30 million to local homeowners in 2020. The payout will come out of a fund set up by state Republicans in 2012 as part of an income tax relief system. Gideon was not yet in office when the tax break was passed, but her partymates were nearly unanimous in opposing it. Jacob Posik, spokesman for the conservative-leaning Maine Heritage Policy Center, called the ad “misleading.”

“Gideon’s ads are misleading—all she really did was change the purpose of the fund, which was already in place and had built up revenues over the [GOP Gov. Paul] LePage years, and make disbursements in 2019 before running for the Senate,” Posik said. read more

  1. Gideon is a carpetbagger who came here after graduating from Soros’ Emerge America to get into politics.
    She is a liar.
She blocks Republicans in Augusta all the time. She cuts them off while they’re speaking in the chamber.
She helped Janet Mills spend every last penny the state had in the rainy day fund and all of our surplus plus money we didn’t have. She’s attractive and looks good on the camera and speaks with a soft-ish voice in her ads. She calls herself a Mainer but she is not.
She is a snake in the grass and needs to be put out of our political misery.
As bad as Collins is Gideon would be downright dangerous to have in the Senate.
