Mamdani-Backed ‘Police-Free Zone’ Gets Another Trial Run in Brooklyn Neighborhood

Patriot TV-

New York City’s latest experiment in sidelining law enforcement rolled out last week in Brownsville, where the NYPD handed over a two-block strip to community groups for patrolling. The stretch along Mother Gaston Boulevard, between Sutter and Pitkin avenues, operated without uniformed officers from noon to 6 p.m. each day from October 7 through 11. Instead, about 20 members from outfits like Brownsville in Violence Out took charge of low-level calls, dishing out food and social services while keeping cops at the edges unless a shooting or stabbing demanded intervention.

This setup, dubbed the Brownsville Safety Alliance, traces back to 2020 when former Mayor Bill de Blasio greenlit it as a twice-a-year trial. Now it’s ramped up to quarterly runs, funded through city contracts funneled to nonprofits like CAMBA, which has pocketed over $915 million since fiscal year 2020. Program director Dushoun Almond, known locally as “Bigga,” runs the show, claiming his team’s street cred helps de-escalate dust-ups that cops might inflame. more

  1. “Instead, about 20 members from outfits like Brownsville in Violence Out took charge of low-level calls…”

    …havent we been here before?

you dont KNOW its a “low-level call” for sure, you only know what the caller SAID, and THEY may be lying, lied to themselves, not really understanding the situation themselves…or leading you deliberately into an ambush.

Also, even an actual low-level call is only low-level until it isnt. Ask anyone who ever responded to a domestic violence call, a drug call, or just who unknowingly said the wrong thing or inadvertently stumbled on guns or drugs during a “routine” run. Lots of actual police die when “routine” traffic stops suddenly escalate.

You dont always see it coming, either. My favorite personal story that illustrates this is the time my EMS got called for TWO patients. It seems there was a disturbed young man who the fam couldnt deal with, but they called their minister instead of the police. I wasnt there for that part so I dont know what was said, but I was there for next part where the young man had to be subdued by the police so he could be transported to a psych ward as a violent mental while his minister was transported to a more conventional hospital for the head wound caused by being clubbed with an acoustic guitar.

…it was sad and also kinda funny to yonger me and all, but had that been a solid-bodied guitar it would have done some SERIOUS damage, and had there been a more effective weapon about it would have been a fatality. Juat like that.

Because the minister obvioulsly did not realize his peril until it was too late.

…Ive gone into this several times before so I wont belabor it here, but the short version is you need to be prepared for ANYTHING, which a sworn officer is more likely to be than Jenny From The Block.

There WILL be blood. There always IS.

…also, Im guessing they are not doing NEAR as much to vet the “20 members from outfits like Brownsville in Violence Out” as they are REQUIRED to with a LEO, so they may have thieves in their ranks being let into traumitized houses, thugs that have their OWN axes to grind, or simply people who havent been trained and tested in the ways of the world that may freeze or freak out when things go suddenly, seriously sideways. You dont know what youre going to do when someone wants to kill you until you actually HAVE someone try to kill you, and when you are alone or only have similarly untrained people around you isnt the time to find OUT.

And what OTHER training have they? Do they know CPR? Do they carry Naloxone? Are they even trained in how to asses a scene? Is ANY of this written down? Do they have liability insurance, are they bonded, do they have medical insurance or Worker’s Comp? Probably not. The whole thing seems more of a porly thought out social experiment than anything else, and it WILL end in embarassment, tragedy, or both, you can depend on it.

  2. That’s right, drive a wedge in between the Police and the Community! That’s the democRAT way! Divide and Destroy.
The community’s tax dollars are paying for them to be there. They should be doing just the opposite and encouraging Police to be a part of the community.
BTW, their goal is to eliminated the Police. Does anyone really think their taxes will go down if that happens? “Defund the Police” showed us that! They defunded the Police, but didn’t lower taxes. Where did the money go? We all know that it really is – another Socialist scheme to rob the coffers while making things worse!
