JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — A 41-year-old man died Monday morning after being buried under hot asphalt while trying to repair his dump truck in Mississippi, authorities said.
The victim, identified as Darrell Sheriff, was a private contractor who was picking up a load of asphalt at AJ Materials in Jackson when his vehicle malfunctioned around 10:30 a.m.
Sheriff was underneath the truck working on a hydraulic line when the tailgate opened and asphalt fell on him, the Jackson Police Department said in a statement. more
That had to be horrific!
RIP
Terrible.
Sad!
How utterly awful. I hope it was quick for him but I fear it wasn’t.
I make light-hearted and snarky comments on a lot of articles, but not this one.
This is 100% serious and horrible, 0% anything else.
May the Lord bless and comfort his family in their time of desperate need, and may He touch those who tried to rescue the man and bless them with the ability for forget what they have seen.
Do not get complacent on the job.
Familiarity kills.
So horrifying, I passed over this post several times in avoidance.
Lord, please help to calm and comfort his family and friends. Amen.
Years ago I was on squad call. Southbound motorhome driver had a heart attack. Cross the highway to the opposite shoulder, and struck a state truck patching holes in the highway. The guy behind the truck didn’t see it coming. It pushed the state truck backwards over him. On a small town rescue squad it’s common to have a non-EMT driver. The driver shocked out when we drove up on the scene, he walked around behind the rescue squad and just turned sheet white. I won’t describe the scene.
Be grateful for every day.
Poor man; I hope his suffering was of short duration. How awful. Rest in peace.
Years ago I worked on the flight deck of an Aircraft Carrier. I made it a habit to talk to myself at all times about the dangers of Complacency. It’s the number cause of death out at sea and on any dangerous job.
So sorry for the family loss. May our LORD and Savior comfort them.
